I see what Grahf is trying to make here, but I don't necessarily believe that higher ranked people in the army or in parliament are robots.
Personally, I don't like characters to be too
ordinarily human, they should be far greater/more interesting (at least in some respects) than ordinary people, or why bother reading about them? But one of the quickest ways for me to stop caring about a story is if I can't believe in the characters, if they no longer seem real to me; so they also need to stay believably human. If that makes sense.
Completely agree with the point about high rank not equalling robots. I think Grahf's biggest problem with the argument is that he's underestimating the crushing mental burden that a leader such as Griffith is under, and so holding him to a standard
no human (except sociopaths, who wouldn't be able to lead effectively anyway because they wouldn't be able to identify with people) could meet.

About what was originally being discussed here: Was Griffith really strong? Was he really fit to be a "good"(as subjective as a word such as "good" is) leader ?
The answer, if you were to ask me, would invariably be the same: NO
A good leader has to be strong, because he has to carry the burden of everyone under his/her command.
A part of being strong is the ability to accept failure and get over it. Anyone incapable of doing so is not really strong, and therefore, not fit to be a leader.
Grififth, until the moment he was defeated by Guts, had never known defeat. The moment he, for the first time in his life, lost, he fell apart. It has to be noted that he was defeated by the same man that had become the only thing other than himself in which he could rely on, so the feeling of defeat hit him twice as hard.
So.......He fell and proved to be unable to get up. Was he then, fit to be a leader? Nooooooope.

I don't think it was just defeat. He probably could have handled defeat in a battle by the Chuder, but not by Guts.

So here's what some people are saying is the reason for the hiatus...

I hope they're not serious.

fuck me sideways, they are serious. fucking miura, what an asshole! i think berserk deserves to have someone else finish it off at this point. like garth ennis, that might work, he was pretty boss with preacher.
in any case about the whole leader, politician thing, we got a real set of idiots that are in control of my city here. just listening about them making fun of each other and how they say dumb things is enough. like mixing up and saying tax cunts instead of tax cuts, though i guess that's a little funny.

There's no way to know that's true, but if so that'd be pretty lame, IMO. I'd rather not even think about it and dismiss it as a rumor.

Don't listen to the rumors, our lord and savior Jesus Christ will make sure Miura continues his work on Berserk. If the worst happens I'll become a stoic and be invulnerable to calamities.

If Miura is so rich that he can afford to take time off of work to play a video-game, then I imagine he'd attract enough chicks off of his wealth alone then to have to resort to playing a Hentai game, I mean come on. I'd be more likely to believe he had fallen ill or at the very least was playing something good like Street Fighter 4 or Resident Evil 5 or something.

The Berserk Withdrawal syndrome is slow to gestate (nobody knows why, but it behaves like a virus), but when it does........it paralyzes large sections of the human brain.
The first symptoms have already manifested......we are actually believing shit posted by Moe Moe retards!
Pd: That, or some of us were just incredibly bored.

Yeah, I just thought the link would pass the time. He's probably stocking up on a few decent chapters. Who knows, he may even be working on developing Guts and company's plot!

My personal theory is that Berserk is such an awesome drug- er, or rather
story that it takes a long time for the effects of a dose to begin to wear off.

I think I've been suffering from Berserk withdrawal myself, but at least now I can articulate a story good enough to submit to publishers again.

You know, there are only two pieces of media, that I know of, which are so kick-ass that they can retain a fan-base during regular, ridiculously lengthy breaks:
Berserk mangas and Tool records.

I had a dream in which the next chapter date was foretold. It was going to be soon; I only hope the prophecy can be fulfilled. Miura, you are the One.

I can tell you with certainty that the next Berserk chapter will come out before the PS2 game gets translated into English.

God I havent been here in ages, been away ever since the start of the God king arc, waiting for the trickle of updates to become a full glass, but today i just had to come back, because I need realiable information.
Can someone please confirm or deny this?
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/03/2 ... aro-miura/
Is it true that Miura is a Nico addict and that he is putting less and less time on Berserk to play Idol Master?

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Someone on the blackswordsman forum noted that wikipedia says there's going to be 2 more seasons of Berserk. If you go there you can see the studios and directors and it looks official. Man it will be awesome if it really is true.
First one will air in Spetember this year supposedly, and it's called "Berserk: Wasurebana no Shō"
Second one in September of 2010, and it's called "Berserk: Seima Senki no Shō"

No offense, dude, but how gullible ARE you? Some dude on a fansite says he saw something on Wikipedia? And can't even be bothered to provide a link? Riiiiiiiiight.
I'm looking at the Wikipedia entry for Berserk right now and I see nothing like this. Either it was never there to begin with, or some joker decided to pull an early April Fools' prank that even Wikipedia knew was BS.

It's still there, on the right side of the page in the boxes. I checked it before posting, of course. I don't pay attention to the date very much, but since you mention it, it could be an april fools joke. But I will have hope still, it provides excitement in times of great need (of chapters).
edit:
DrPeppePro's journal. March 28th, 2009. 2:13 a.m.
_____After interrogating the informant known as hbi2k, his demeanor left me thinking of the more logical truth; that there were not going to be new Berserk seasons. I then proceeded to access the Wikipedia page edit logs. While sorting through the information, I came across many edits, all within the last 8 hours, and by a certain Brazilian based user. Not a good sign. Most of the edits were small things on various pages; formalities, names, dates, the like of which could be easily believed. The most suspicious thing however, was that first edit of the IP, which was the addition of the two new Berserk seasons.
_____My next lead was the television company that had previously aired Berserk, and who supposedly will air the next two seasons. I checked their website. No news of Berserk on the front. Searching for Berserk, using the native language of the site, provided no news either. I was doubtful now. Then I heard sounds. They had me surrounded; but the word would not impose itself unto me; I would not surrender. I flamed some people, banned some others, but in the end I was captured.
But then I just turned my computer off.

My God!
The poor bastard is delirious!
I have never seen a case of BWS (Berserk Withdrawal Syndrome) this advanced!
Quick, someone, put him out of his misery before he starts a "monologue about how bleak everything looks now that berserk is gone forever"!
