Oh damn.

I already pity all those poor demons who will have to pay for that.

Thanks for the great chapter!
Well my thoughts of the upcoming events could take place like:

1. Serpico takes the bulk of the attack and will most likely die (very dramatically). Yet this is unlikely considering Serpico's distance from the bolt and speed of lightning would never physically be able to reach each other on time.

2. Guts takes the blow and either a) survives and goes beserk and does his normal actions of decimation through miraculous means or b) survives but is left critically wounded which starts the whole godhand behelit chain reaction of asking for a sacrifice to survive (unlikely though considering the behelit isn't even his and he would probably wouldn't sacrifice anything) and lastly c) he gets knocked the fuck out and all chaos takes place.

3. Personally, I believe he is going to be saved by either Griffith or an apostle of the Band of the Hawk. Griffth has shown incredible godlike speed in the past, which would allow him to catch up to the lightning and carry Guts away. Anyways, didn't the prophet of the hawks warn Schierke about the attack, so based upon that Griffth must of known of the attack and is preparing his usual teleportation save the day at the last minute while everyone is looking at one direction moment.

I'm really pulling for number 3, considering Gut's entourage doesn't have the power possible to defeat a magic user of such magnitude, and in such a case they would most likely have to run for it with the distraction of a chaotic battle. Well thats my two cents at least.

I highly doubt that either Griffith or the any of the new Band of the Hawks will save Gutts, I just can't see them helping their enemy, although who knows, that would definately be interesting. My bet is still on the emperor realising who he is and choosing to spare him so he can continue to battle against Griffith and the new Hawks.

Same here. Griffith has nothing to gain by helping Guts out. I think Guts will have to think of a way to get out of this one, he's taken only one blast of the lightning bolt and has reverted by to his normal state. Granted, he was already weakened from the fight with the magician, so one lightning bolt may not have been able to shock him in one blow.

Maybe Luffy will fly out and rescue him! Eneru all over again, man. But seriously, the only way I see Guts getting out of this one is if the lightning bolt wasn't aimed directly on him, missed him, but I don't see any reason for the Emperor to do that, at least, not revealed yet.

Well if you look at the page of the chapter it really doesnt look like anyone tries to move and save Guts, except for Serpico. But you can see clearly that he wont make it in time. Everyone else looks like they are in shock. This was a hard nut :P

Gatts can't die, the whole emphasis of this story is the lengths one man will go to to survive and protect the things he loves against a overwhelming and unstoppable force (the God's Hand). He will SURPASS the Skull Knight in that he, a mere human, will have the power to fight the God's Hand WITHOUT becoming something like one of them. It is his defiance, his stubborn will to survive and keep swinging his sword that makes this story beautiful. If he becomes like Skull Knight it will go against the theme of the will to live is a human trait, and will confirm in an abysmal way that no mere human can challenge the power of god. It simply won't happen. Nothing will stop Gatts. Not god, not the armor, and most definately not Griffith. That is what Berserk is - defiance.

I thought that the main story of Berserk was focusing around the self-destruction of a man and the process a man that usually goes through when they've succumbed to nihilistic masochism.

Nihilism = Belief that nothing matters
Masochism = Deriving pleasure from pain

~_~ I don't really think Gatts finds pain pleasurable, nor does he believe that nothing matters.

To me the story is about his struggle and defiance of unfathomable powers that are far superior to mankind's. He, a mere man, is fighting against five agents of god, and is surviving, no matter the odds.

Someone needs to die soon to change Berserk being a happy go go fantasy ala an RPG game...

Thats why i loved the early chapters of Berserk, people died all the time due the harsh life they lived in a world terrorised by monsters.

Well if my prediction holds true, the inhabitants of Elfheim will get slaughtered :) and eventually Skullknight will die saving Gatts (he might take Zodd with him in the process, as an ultimate end to their rivalry).

Guts cant be the Black Swordsman without darkness ;)

Without darkness? A whole city is being ravaged, every single person is being killed...

I don't think someone important will die, anytime soon.

A character who will be "Sacrifed to the Drama Gods" is generally one whom the author builds a slight emotional attachment with, via sympathy or otherwise, but not enough so as to leave the reader shouting "wtf why did you kill him" :)

Best example of one I could think of would be the guy in The Hunt for Red October who speaks with the Captain about moving to Montana and getting himself a wife and a truck, and how happy he would be with that. Enough for an "aww" moment, but not enough for a real attachment. Of course, near the end he dies, spouting a phrase of pure drama butter, "I would have liked to have seen Montana..".

Anyhow, I don't see any of the main troop dying anytime soon, but when the time comes, if it does come, I would guess Serp bites it :). Either him or the kid (in a moment paralleling the young kid who wanted to be a knight dying which really upset Griffith).

Right,Isidoro is probably the less skilled fighter and the one who can die because of his stupidity ("Guts kicked your ass,Grunbeld,I am sure I can do it too"),saving the band by his idiotic sacrifice  .

I think it'll be Roderick. From the main cast? I think Farnese, as a redemption suicide...who knows?

Don't think it'll be Isidro, though. He's comic relief with Puck. Can you imagine one of them without the other?

Farnese is too important. Serpicio did get a magic item, but even so, considering Farnese kinda likes Gatts over him he is an expendable character. They will kill off a male for sure.

I´m with Khelegond, Farnese will die at some point, Serpico´s character is based on her and her survival, if she dies, the situation could go anywhere.

I don't actually see anyone dying any time soon (well, not any main characters anyway). If you notice, although this is a dark manga, the author likes to spend a long time with characters (and "lighter" segments) before killing them off. Consider how long the Hawks were around for. I also don't agree that when someone (or several people) die it will be those the author doesn't care much about, or that generates only mild sadness in the viewers. That's something less skilled authors do, precisely because they don't mind not having the character any more. If you notice, when the Hawks died, half the cast died, and one of the main characters had her mind shattered. By spending a long time building up characters, and killing ones that people really care about, you generate a far stronger reaction then by could otherwise be achieved (part of the reason I doubt Elfheim will be destroyed as they arrive. We don't know enough about it to really care, and Puck's sadness wouldn't really equalize for that non-caring). I think these characters will be with us for a while yet, as the author continues to build and develope them.

Someone important dont have to die even though i would like if Farnese died cause she is waste of paper.
