Miura didn't have a plan when he started. he is fantastic, however the best part of a story is the ending. a "life's work" should be the culmination of events, not the detailed retelling that takes more time to tell it than what actually took place.
side note: are there any Yukio Mishima fans out there? "the Sea of Fertility" is a breath taking "life' work" in only 4 books.
I believe the 100 volumes series you're referring to, is the novel fantasy series Guin Saga by Kaoru Kurimoto, a book series. Anyway the man should continue the manga as much as he has inspiration but not just for the sake of prolonging the end. Besrerk should end when it should end and I hope that's not in 15 years... Having battles that each one lasts for 10 chapters isn't a nice way to make the manga last longer... there should be more focus on the story.

Bite your tongue!! Or fingers, I suppose given that you're typing. Regardless, don't say (or type) such things.

Well, I think he's around 50 right now. So, if Berserk would to go on for another 15 years...he'd be 65..quite old, but not to the point of being unable to work. Especially in terms of drawing. But I gotta admit...I find it hard to imagine he's that old. But then again, I'm probably spoiled on Eiichiro Oda only being 31 or so, making him bout 21 when he started One Piece.

Haha, probabily he will be bored before that and end the story faster.

He isn't that old, he started the idea of Berserk when he was in his college years (25 years old tops), then about 20 years of publishing berserk (I might be a little off on this though) would put him, at most, around 45 years old.

His birthdate is July 11th, 1966 so maybe I counted wrong.

I was so close! He's 41. I wouldn't consider that to be old, he can keep writing and drawing Berserk for an extra 30 years easily.

He could, but some people do like to enjoy their retirement at that age. I just hope that when Berserk ends it feels like an actual close to the whole world of Midland.

Seriously. This story needs to have a real end, with all (or most) of the threads wrapped up, not an "the author got tired of the series and had to wrap it up quickly" end. If that happened, I seriously think I might cry. Right before hunting down Miura and forcing him (by torture if necessary) to declare he'd continue the series...

Agreed. It would be really boring if the story just ends out of nothing.

I guess then we'd have an Evangelion style situation where the death threats would pile up until Miura feared for his life and redid the ending. Again. And again. And again...
That would be really shit. Come on, the guy's been doing this forever, he'd never just kill it, would he? Think of the time and energy he's devoted to Berserk over the years. Also it's not exactly a 9-5 job he's got. And he knows it, judging by all the time off he takes. He's got no boss, but he's accountable to his fans, right?

Well, we certainly
hope he wouldn't. And we also dearly hope that he doesn't get tired of the series, which is the reason that we forgive him all of his breaks. But realistically, if he does there's not really much we can do about it, either.

Or it could be like Battle Angel Alita where he has to wrap it up because he's sick, but later revisits it with a new series and completely ignores the less-than-perfect ending.
Or it could be like The Wheel of Time series... so sad...

If your negative comments manage to curse/jinx this series, such that something like that actually happens, I
will hunt you down and kill you. And I suspect that I will not be alone.
There are things you just don't say.

Can't say what? Things like death threats? I'm sure the laws of causality are intact and Miura's destiny, having been manipulated through hundreds of generations to produce this particular mangaka, will not be altered by one or one hundred million anonymous BB posts.
Despite my considerable powers of witchery.
Posting positive thoughts, positive thoughts... Miura, be well!!! May your manga drawing days be long and plentiful!

I remember him saying confidently that the Millenium Falcon arc was the final arc of the series. I don't see this going for another 30 volumes.
I hope he wraps it up in a few years. I'd like a strong conclusive ending that comes because the story reaches it's intended end point, and not manga that just ramble until there's no longer any interest. You don't watch a movie wishing it would go on for another 3 hours. You just want the story to be full and complete.

I'm imagining Istvan in a suit beating up a tied up Tonbo sitting on a chair as 'Stuck in the middle with you' plays in the background. Tarantino style.

Where did you get this information from? Do you have the source where you got this from? Because I've never heard anything about that.

Where did he say that? The only think I read/heard him say was that now that the party is assembled the story can start at last.

Which would seem to imply to me at least that it's not ending any time soon. This is a good thing. Because a major difference between manga and a movie is that the manga doesn't have to be watched/read
all in one sitting, and so it's OK if it's really long, if the plot and characters stay interesting. Frankly, I don't want this series to end soon, because, among other things, I can't think of any possible way that all of the various plot threads could be wrapped up "soon". It might almost be an insult to the series to try.

It was around the time that the MF arc was starting, probably like 5 years ago, now. I'd be hard pressed to find the exact source at this point.

I guess it all depends how you define "soon"-- in a series that's been going for nearly two decades, "soon" is relative. (-:

There are so many directions and plotlines the story is going at the moment, I'm sure the series can easily continue for some time without it reaching a point of being drawn out.
Look at DragonBall Z and GT.....even though it continued on forever, never for a moment did the series appear as if it were spinning its wheels. Hopefully Berserk can live up to such heights.
Any way, I believe I heard the same interview. And in regards to the Millenium Falcon Arc, I confidently recall Miura was referring to the fact that this would be the last Arc that had Caska being a retard.

Um LOL?
Are you really saying Dragonball (especially Z and GT) are things Berserk should aspire to live UP TO?
Dragonball was the same story arc over and over, just the villians changed. There was no charakter development (besides Vegeta and Son Gohan), the just leveled up again and again. And all everyone besides Sayans could ever hope to do was "give his power" to the Sayans so they would be even stronger.
Comparing Berserk to Dragonball Z/GT is like comparing a delicious 5-course meal to something a bum found in the trashcan. Not cool.

You can't be serious. DBZ was full of more filler and BS after the Freeza saga (which was obviously meant to end the series) than any series ever. It's exactly what I dread happening to Berserk.
Also, I don't know that there are any threads that they couldn't wrap up in this arc. If their arrival at Elfhelm marks the entry into the third act, and we have another 5 volumes covering through Guts confrontation with Griffith, things could wrap up pretty neatly.
There are a few more threads. The moonchild, Rakshas' bloodlust for Griffith, but that's hardly too much for them to wrap up in 5 volumes.
