Who's with me?
Wow! I would love that. It's true too.
Eldo wrote:If Guts is stupid for leaving for a journey in search for his dream and self-discovery, then I guess the other hawks are smart for not having a dream or ambition they want to pursue.
No, I didn't say that. I said Guts was stupid for leaving in search of something and then realizing that he had already found that something among his friends in the Hawks. But he didn't realize it until the Hawks were screwed. This is made clear if you look at the chapter I mentioned (v12c02p37).
Eldo wrote:But do you think Griffith would have even allowed him to leave, granted he did tell him before hand?
No, I don't think he would have let him leave just like that. But as I said, at least asking him anyway would have shown that he cared and maybe, just maybe Griffith wouldn't have become so depressed. But who knows, eh. Point is a good friend would have asked first no matter what.
Eldo wrote:Well, the members of the hawks were basically going to be promoted to nobles, if you recall that ball that the king held. All was good and well until Griffith screwed it up. Who would have thought that Griffith would ruin it himself? I don't think that Guts could have predicted Griffith's road to self destruction. He considered himself only a small obstruction, a 'tiny pebble', he did not think his fight was going to have such an impact. He only regretted leaving because of the way that the Hawks has degraded, and partly blames himself for it. I don't think he would have given two shits if all the hawks were rich bastards with noble classes the next time he met with them. Griffith ruined himself, he was responsible for his downfall, and forced the hawks to be degraded, and it wasn't really Guts fault for doing so.
You are right, Guts thought that the Hawks were well off when he left them. But once he returned he regretted leaving them because he realized that these friends he had made in this Band of the Hawk were the "thing" (a place to belong?) he had been searching for all of his life (v12c02p37). But he realized it only when it was too late.
Eldo wrote:No, there isn't a difference. During the war, the soldiers WILLINGLY 'sacrificed' their lives for Griffith's dream, and plus, they were at war. It either kill or be killed. But in the eclipse, it was a massacre. I don't believe the hawks gave their lives away voluntarily for Griffith to become Femto. They were killed/murdered as 'sacrifices' to Femto. All I see were the soldiers fighting against and opposing the apostles for their own survival, and not willingly be 'sacrificed' for Griffith. The soldiers in the war thought dying for Griffith was a noble cause, but in the eclipse, they were fighting for their survival, and not for Griffith.
Yes there is a difference and dying like that was not what they were expecting. But as I said, they joined up ready to die for Griffiths dream, so they knew what they were getting into. Casca at least also knew that Griffith only saw them as tools to be sacrificed for his dream. Hell, he says so himself in (v06c06p131) while Casca overhears. They were willing to be sacrificed and he sacrificed them, just not in the way they imagined it.

So for Griffith at least there was no difference. We see that in his "vision" during the eclipse. I try to see things from the characters perspective, not what outsiders would think of their actions. If a character didn't believe what he was doing was evil then I will think him less evil than one doing something even though they know it is. But that's just me. Hell, even if he did think it was evil he still saw no difference between the deaths of his friends in the eclipse and the thousands that died before them on the battlefield. They were all sacrifices for his dream. And I see it the same way.

Some of us readers wouldn't have had so many problems with it if Griffith had sacrificed some no-name assholes instead of all those wonderful characters in Band of the Hawks. I tend to view things from another perspective. For me the lives of the Hawks are not worth anymore than the lives of all those people Guts easily kills when they obstruct his path. If you kill someone then you are a killer, even if you only did it because they attacked you. But that's just my way of seeing things.
Eldo wrote:Of course, I only skimmed through your post. Maybe Starnum could reply much better than I could. Can't believe I wrote a long arse post, it's been a while.
Come now, you should read all of it, I wrote it all for you (cries). I actually had covered most of the things you talked about. At least I thought I had.
Eldo wrote:I slept with Griffith, because, you know, we'll both ghey and shit.
That was my poor attempt at a joke, since my post was so long I tried to sprinkle a couple of them in there to make it more digestible.

Heh, if you guys think that that post was huge then you still haven't seen anything yet. There was this other forum that I used to frequent in and in it there was this story thread. The thread started with someone posting a small story and everyone else would continue the story with a segment that they wrote. It was comprised mostly of small boring segments, then I got my eyes on it. Before long I started to dominate the thread and each segment I wrote was longer than the last.

It ended up being a whacky story about a guy with a huge sword and a violent inner-demon killing person after person while being accompanied by a psychotic elf. Yeah, it was inspired by Berserk. I think the last segment I wrote before some fucker caused the thread to get locked would have dwarfed anything I have written here. Hell, if you put together all the segment of the story I wrote I think you could fill up about 25 pages or so. Good times....

I always try to maintain a high level of quality in the things I write, no matter how long. But if you find the quality to be lacking then I am sorry, I did my best. English is my third language after all. And I seem to suffer from a crippling handicap rendering me unable to say things with fewer words.

Dutch is like English and German combined nicht wahr?

:) We once watched Dances with wolves during English class. It was supposed to be in English. In the end they spoke an indian language, and the sub was Dutch. Twas quite understandable though...

Well, I wanted to learn French, but it would have cost me helluva lot of cash, and a teacher suggest studying Spanish, becouse South-American economy has great potential. Not something I would say about the EU nowadays :? . Just hope it won't go to pieces...

As a native Dutch speaker , I should say Dutch is indeed a relative to German. The Northern variant of Dutch ( spoken in Holland ) has alot of German influence and has a sort of Skandinavian touch to it .

The Southern variant ( Spoken in Belgium ) is similar , but has alot "dutchened" french words in it .

As for going back on topic .

Griffith should burn . The Hawks on the battlefield died in their eyes a honorable death ( disputable to the outside viewer ) . There was no honor in being eaten alive by a bunch of monsters even if it was a sacrifice for Griffith.Remember : if Griffith hadn't screwed (literaly) up in the first place , they wouldn't have had to die. They'd be living the good life as noblemen.

As for Gats : Sure he is to blame. I think he already knew what kind of a psycho Griffith was when it came to him . There's plenty of occasions where Griffith forgets his dream and saves him. After the scene were Griffith is on his knees and Gats goes away , you can see him hesitating , he predicted that Griffith would fuck up .
He might have been responsible for Griffiths fuck up , I don't think he can be blamed for what happened afther that ( although he was warned on two occasions about this ... he's kinda stupid innit :D ) .

How's that for a Third Post !!!!

Not bad at all but it says that its your second post ;)

Also i don't think Guts can be responsible for for what happened to hawks cause they choosed to follow Griffith on their own.

Wow, utilising my limited knowledge of German (my fourth language) and the scandinavian I know I think I can actually understand everything you wrote there.

Translation: Heheh I am Isse, I am swedish. That is great. I am a cool n00b, hear xD?.
