The Herald wrote:I just have to ask, do you guys edit the sentances to make them sound better in English? If you do, then kudos, because if it's in English it may as well be grammatically correct. And Berserk isn't Japanese looking at all, so having Japanese words looks kind of silly. Though, when it's a dork like Adon, then it's okay because he is the epitomy of silly.

P.S. Woot! 100th post
What do you mean by "Japanese words"?

I assume what you are asking is whether liberties are taken in some of the translation, then rather translating the dialogues word for word. I would assume because reading the other translatiions, a lot of the text comes off rather awkward. Although the Dark Horse editors do a good job in their translations as well, as I'm sure they take liberties based on their intrpetations as well.

congratulations Herald !!

The 100th post is a great moment for all of us, it marks the moment when we stop being Newbshits and start being a grown average guy......of course, there are some exceptions, Finito being the most remarkable of them. ( just joking Finito, dont get mad at me )

I reached the 100 posts only a little while ago, but I feel like a different man now, the Ultra mega hyper uber supa newbie impulses coming at me only occasionaly.....

Anyway, I agree with you, Berserk doesnt look like the typical japanese manga, its quality surpases cultural restriction, which makes it the only Global Manga.

I would like to add that Magnifico too would look good saying japanese phrases, I mean, he is so pathethic that occidental writting cant depict his stupidiy, only the more voluble japanese can.

I will pray for......I dont know.....something...... :stupid:

Pd: I am really starting to worry about these strange purple things that began to appear in my face after only one week of prayer... :nosebleed:

Calling Puck a "conspirator" may be a little strong. I doubt he's really thought (at all) about this supposed plan, and if he had it would have been so absurd as to in no way deserve being taken seriously. Of course, if he thought like that he wouldn't be Puck...

Breeding elves for profit is a great idea. Who wouldn't love having their own Puck for a pet?....Ergh.....never mind.

Puck just wants all the nookie he can get. That's his angle on the whole elf-breeding scheme.

The trick with Puck is that he's never serious when he's looking like a marshmallow. When he looks like a naked barbie doll with wings is when he's serious. Well, as serious as he could ever be. But, back when Puck was the only one with Guts he was pretty serious. I blame Isidro, having a kid like him in the group has made Puck go all goofy.

I know....All we get nowadays is Chestnut Puck with the occasional Mr. Miyagi Puck whenever Isidro is concerned. Hard to believe he's the same Puck who helped out in Gut's fight with the Slug Count.

Apparently all the other characters have stole his spotlight, where he is just left in the background making off-hand remarks which are usually unreadable due to small text/ resolution issues.
But I have a feeling ever since transforming into King Puck, he and Magnifico may team up. And may find out that all along Puck has been following a destined path to become King of the faeries, where acting as Puck's "sword", Magnifico will apply his gift of chicanery to aid Puck in realizing his dream. Unfortunately Puck will wind up using his behelit to sacrifice Magnifico, in order to overthrow King Hanafubuku and become King himself. Only to be impeached a few days later and kicked back off the island like he had been in the first place.

Having survived Puck's sacrifice ceremony, due to a lack of apostle attendance for the ceremony (lack of interest), an emotionally scarred Magnifico will be left retarded.
Haha, though this feels like it should be in the stupid theories thread, it's still really funny. I'd like to hear more about why Puck left the island in the first place.

P.S. How are the scanlations going?

A four armed goddess sucking your dick, now that's not something you experience every day, and probably worth dying over. Hell you could probably even be the new skull touching her boobies, weeeee.

WAIT! Who's this "The Man" character I've been hearing about.....an apparent "demonoid" no less?

What role does he play in Chapter 291? What's his relation to "The Idea"?

Shouldn't we save this discussion for after Ch.291 gets released here? Now I feel left out..... :(

hmm, i think this may be my first post, i didnt' realise i was actually registered here... :/

this is very late, but i'm just wondering about this wording from Page 5 i think, of your scanlation of chapter 290
"however, the longer they entwine themselves around one as close beside you as I, the more they expose themselves to the land of the dead."

"around one as close beside you as I", in this case 'one' and 'I' refer to the guts' berserk-wolf-thingy, (guts' comrades entwining themselves around the wolf, not guts?) which doesn't make as much sense to me as if it were
"around one as close beside me as you", where the 'one' and the 'you' refer to guts himself - that is, the longer guts' comrades associate with guts (who is close beside the wolf, ie. his berserker rage) the closer they become to death.

they're essentially the same thing really.. but different connotation.. or maybe i'm just being fussy.

i don't know japanese, so i can't take a look at the raws myself
i'm just looking at it from an english-speaking reader's point of view.

The way I see it, there's nothing grammatically incorrect about it. But back in primary school, we were taught it'd be more polite to refer to someone's name first, than to yourself second. As in, 'Scott and I', and not 'Me and Scott'. Unless you're a English major, feel free to correct me. I have used 'Person A and I' much more frequently than the latter choice.

That is the price you way when you have to make a choice between literal and interpretive translation.

Re: Berserk chapter: 290

I understand. My point was just that:
Since the wolf is addressing Guts, then 'you' refers to Guts and 'I' or 'me' refers to the wolf.
"however, the longer they entwine themselves around one as close beside you as I, the more they expose themselves to the land of the dead." ('they' being Guts' new-found comrades)
Simplifying that by cutting out the relation between the wolf and guts, you'd get something like 'the longer they entwine themselves around one such as I...' - 'I' referring to the wolf.
On the other hand if it were '...around one as close beside me as you...', simplifying that would give 'the longer they entwine themselves around one such as you...' - you being Guts.
So I think it isn't a matter of politeness or correctness in grammar since it isn't a situation like "Scott and I..." because the order of the words or, objects, does matter.
but having said that, it's really not that important. Because I do understand your translation and I do understand what the wolf is saying.

On another note, this chapter felt kinda premonitory, so I was gonna make a comment about that here, but I think i'll take it to the theories thread. ;]
