For some reason it makes me think more of Austin Powers than Ash. Did Miura mentioned he's a fan of the british spy? I'll let you guys think of the deeper implications of this, it's omake food.

Groovy baby yeah!

Army of Darkness doesn't own the word «groovy». I don't even think it WAS a reference to Evil Dead. Wasn't it just a fitting translation ? When I read the book it didn't even occur to me that this could be related to Ash, it just seemed to flow allright, in a normal conversation.

I think a character missing his arm can use the word groovy without people automaticaly seeing it as a «ripoff» of Evil Dead.
No argument, it doesn't have to be such a reference, but (having had it pointed out) I will agree that "groovy" just doesn't seem like the kind of thing Guts would say. It just seems off for his personality.

more to the point, they both said it when they received said mechanical arm. I was unaware of Miura's fondness of the evil dead series (he certainly has good taste), and it may be purely unintentional, but the coinsidence is strong in this one.

I really want to know, now, what word is used in the Japanese subtitle/dub of Army of Darkness... It'd be even more awesome if it matched the word Miura used in the original version of his own scene (making it a purposeful reference that Dark Horse carried over).

I have a question also related to vol. 14 were the holy chain knights going to war with midland or were they just scoping out terrain for possible war?

I thought the artificial arm quote did sound like an evil dead comedic moment

If memory serves, it's neither, they came to see the location of the eclipse, because it was mentioned in a prophecy, and they wanted to check it out for themselves.

I must say after reading the prototype and looking at the quality of art, Miura has come along way sense '88 and damn is Berserk looking sexy right now.

I agree, the art has really improved a lot. At the beginning, the art wasn't much more then decent, but over time it has become truly spectacular. I guess it just goes to show that practice really does make perfect.

he says in the interview he likes evil dead, and was in fact afraid of being rejected at the very least because of the similarities.

Miura shouldn't worry unless he plans to give Guts a Chainsaw arm.

If something like that ever happened, I'd have to stop reading it. It would just be too stupid.
