and here is something by explosions in the sky, one of the best instrumental bands i've ever heard and i've heard one of the best live bands around.
I love this band.
They are the sole reason I watch Friday Night Lights since the sound track is mainly theirs.

Oi, do they play live on that show, man? Just jamming, or songs from their albums? I didn't get The Rescue, eh... I was really happy with 'How Strange, Innocence', that was my favourite album for about a year, with tracks like Glittering Blackness. Ah... long time ago, now, though... instruments have a certain charm, but they don't stand up to electricity as noise.

Totally random, and since I didn't want to make a new thread just to ask this, I'm necroing (not really, it's only 2 weeks old) this.
I want to find / get the song that plays on the DVD Menu of the anime. You may not know which one, but it plays when the Band of the Hawk (the full army) goes to conquer that provisions camp...
Dang... can't really specify more... anyone have any idea?

My favourite band ever
by far is a Swedish prog metal band named
Opeth. I say prog metal, but it's really hard to categorise them. They're a mix of plenty of things (including death metal roots, so they use screaming vocals often, but not exclusively).
I just can't think of a good enough way to describe exactly why these guys are so awesome to me, but it's mostly to do with the contrast and dynamics they present in their music, as well as their unique sound. One minute they're playing dark and extremely heavy riffs, next they're playing the most beautiful accoustic (sounding) melody I've heard with great clean vocals. It's almost impossible to predict what you're going to hear next, and I like that.
YouTube seems to be down, so you're just going to have to put up with Google Video.
Opeth - Harvest

I've been a fan of Opeth or awhile now. Good stuff.
Along the same line as Opeth is another group:
Paradise Lost which a friend from Germany introduced me to with their album Host. They have moved from death metal to speed metal then eventually into progressive rock/metal hybrid.
I used to be a fan of Theatre of Tragedy, they had a mellodic dark rock thing going on, but their last album Musique is very crap synthpop.
Nightwish is also pretty darn good, all their albums are.
Inkubus Succubus rocks my socks with good female vocals and melodic rock.
For synthpop fans that want quality music check out:
VNV Nation
Assemblage 23
Wolfsheim
I've seen them all in concert and I never get tired of listening to their work. Great stuff.

Nice... Unfortunately I have to go to sleep now, but right after I get back from work tomorrow, I'm going to check out those bands you mentioned. I've been needing some new bands to listen to for a while now, and it's not often that I come across someone else that likes Opeth (let alone has heard of them before). Maybe I'll like these bands.
I already know of Nightwish actually, they're pretty good. Also, the little I've heard of Dragonforce has been awesome. Fury of the Storm FTW.

If you're looking for any anime/video game soundtrack, I've found Kingdom Hearts Insider to be very reliable.
HERE's a link to their soundtrack section.
If you have no luck with that, then a peer-to-peer program such as LimeWire is probably your best bet.

Ack, I'm and EBM and Neo-Classical person... so here is some real music.
Here is Apocalyptica & Sandra Nasic. Apocalypitica became famous when doing covers then eventually playing with Metallica. Sandra Nasic is formually of Guano Apes, fairly popular German Band similar in nature of Henry Rollins.

Next up is Rasputina cover of Marlyn Manson's Tourniquet, but this time mixed to Ergo Proxy which is pretty well done.

Moving on to more EBM, I present VNV Nation's Further

And another VNV Nation, Honour which has been remixed to Warhammer 40k

I'm into rap. I do like some of the songs they play on the radio (not Ay Bay Bay or Soulja Boy) but I really like the sounds of Talib Kweli. I'm also into Rage Against the Machine, especially their unreleased and remix songs. The cover of "Wu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin ta Fuck Wit" is pretty awesome.
What I'm into most now is Hindi music. A lot of Hindi songs are remixed so they have the perfect beat to get down to at Indian parties.

Yeah, the Dawn of War intro kicked so much ass it's unbelievable. The other clips were from Space Hulk, Final Liberation, and I believe all the Tau ones should have been from Fire Warrior that's the only game with cutsenes where Tau were in.
