What a cliffhanger! Can't wait 'til 275 for the resolution.

I'm envisioning 3 possible scenarios:

1) mildly possible: the mighty kushan emperor has knocked gatts unconscious, and so close to death that he seems dead, so when something suddenly needs the emperors attention, he turns away, leaving the team a chance to get to gutts, and either heal him, or if he's that badly hurt, hurry him to the elf king they were going to anyway to heal both gutts and casca.

2) unlikely: The armors final stage is unleashed, gutts gets completely caught in the armors embrace, and emperors avatar has to back off.

3) possible: Gutts used his sword as conduit for the electricity, so it leads down into the water, what he'll do after that is anybodys guess.

I think it's interesting that gutts is fighting the emperors avatar, and I wonder how he'll "level up" to combat him.

Using the sword as a cunduit wouldn't work, since he is wearing (and touching) mettle armor, the electricity would flow through that as well, and he would still be electrocuted. As for him seeming to be dead, I can't see why the emperor would leave the rest of them (especially Serpico and maybe Schierke if he knows of her) "alive" after "killing" Guts. It's possible that Guts and Co. will somehow defeat him, but I'm sort of wondering if now that Guts has removed his helmet the Kushan emperor will notice the brand and realize who he is, then deliberately choose to leave him alive since he might know that the Black Swordsman is opposing Griffith, and he'd figure that if he spared Guts, Guts might succeed in taking down at least a few more Apostles of the Band of the Hawk, which could only help the emperor.

An awesome chapter, it has been a while since a chapter was this good and interesting. I didnt expect the emperor so early.


I wonder how Guts is gonna hurt an avatar,he will need Shierke's spells like he did with the fire sword spell.


Also i dont think Guts will the let the emperor just leave without a fight cause you could see he reacts against apostle like usuall.


I really hope he doesnt open a new level of the armour and become more powerful. That would be so unlike manga like this and more like shonens style mangas ala Naruto,Bleach etc

And yesterday we were worried about plot development. Miura rules so much. This chapter contains one of the best twists in the universe. Now it seems that only reason for somehow week plot development in prevous volume is to relax you, so it can kick your ass harder later.

Man this chapter gave me goosebumps...and now I can't wait for the next one.

Guts'll probably enter Berserk mode now, since he lost shierke, is down and was called a Hawk by an apostle....since fighting ganishka (the emperor) physically will be tough perhaps he will be able to use some magic... I mean I don't know if this is cool, but I'm pretty Guts will make it cool...

I really can't wait to see how the group deals with an apostle that is basically all mist and can spit lightning. This looks like it can be really great.

Cant help but wonder what happens in the next chapter, perhaps Schierke had enough time to cast a counter spell so the lightning bolt missed.
In another scenario it could turn out like someone previous stated, the emperor thinks hes killed Guts and somehow get an urgent message that Griffith is using his toilet and flies home

Schierke seems the only hope here,she could cast an elemental spell to protect the band but she aleady is tired by the previous fight...

It looked like Guts just took the hit maybe cause of the armour but prolly something else.

I wasn't expecting a apostle.

I would think something had to have saved him, since I have a hard time imagining even Guts surviving a direct hit from that powerful a lightning bolt. But who knows, Guts has demonstrated before that he's incredibly durable.

Hey everyone, a minor error has come to my attention thanks to a blog comment on the evil-genius.us site.

On page 10, the emperor doesn't say "I wouldn't have thought that two Kshatriyas of the hawk would fell my Pishacha-Gana thusly in a clash" The 'of the hawk' part (takaga) actually means 'just' (as in mere, or merely).

The Japanese word for Hawk is 'Taka' (almost always written in Kanji) and 'ga' is a common grammatical particle in Japanese, but there is another word 'takaga' which is always written in hiragana. The latter was what the emperor was actually using, explaining why his statement didn't evoke an immediate reaction from Guts (Guts' !? reaction only came a few panels later when the emperor really did use the word for Hawk)

So the sentence (from page 10) should really read: I wouldn't have thought that just two Kshatriyas would fell my Pishacha-Gana thusly in a clash

To atone for my error and salvage my honor, I will now commit seppuku.
