The volume 14 I have doesn't have the Berserk Prototype that was supposed to be ncuded at the end of it. Does anyone have it or know if it has ever been translated?

The Prototype is a 48 page story of Guts which Miura introduced in Vol 14. He drew this before he began the main story. After people saw this project of Miura's the higher ups gave him the green light and thus began the serialization of Berserk. It supposed to come after the page shown below, but my scan of volume 14 doesn't have it. There is a translation for it at skullknight.net, but no scans. I might just buy the comic to see it for myself...or I can wait until it's released here.

Anyway... In the prototype Guts has an eyepatch like a pirate and is considered the Black Knight not the Black Swordsman. He also travels around on a horse. In the picture you can also see that his dragonslayer is a tad bit different.

I wonder if anyone has read the prototype of Berserk. I've read the translation at skullnight but I want to see the artwork also.

God if I read the word "n00b" one more time around these boards I think I'll go insane.

I don't think he was in love with Caska, just considered her a very very good friend and he was about to die for Christ's sake. When someone says "I have to say something special", it doesn't have to be "I love you" like all the frikkin time haha. There was no sign or anything between Caska and Judeau before this point that pointed out the possibility.

Or maybe I'm just denying it, if there really was anything, it was just way too "random".

Right, sorry, I forgot where I was.

I'm pretty sure it was discussed, but here it goes:

I am pretty sure he was secretly in love with Caska, only he understood how much enthusiastic she was about Gr. And then Guts appeared who just could be the perfect match for her.

I don't wanna look it up now, but I'm sure Judeau thought sth like "is it too late to tell her" before he died. And died like a hero he did: sacraficed himself for someone he loved
if there was ever sth touching in Berserk this has to be it.

Either way I'm sorry again, and I AM still pretty sure he was in love with her.

Really...
We just haven't had a chance to...
To really...

That did what I meant it to, but...
I can't say what I've been meaning to...

To you...
I have to say something...

But...
"I'm glad to see...
you cry..."
Are those my last words...?
Directly quoted from the Hawks translation volume 13 chapter 2.

Although it's easy to see the implication, it's still very possible that he just considered Caska as his best friend and wanted to say something about that.

That seems to be a much more logical explanation. He's also never jealous of Guts and even encourages him to "be there for Caska". He even laughs when Guts and Caska go at each other right before the Griffith rescue mission. Not to mention that he could've gone after Caska if he wanted to, he doesn't exactly strike me as being shy to girls.

Or maybe he just wanted to die with some meaning so he felt he just *had* to say something.

heh i never really read that part thoroughly...even though it was his dying words. and even though all my manga is out of order (slightly annoying) im takin the time to reread it thoroughly. and im pretty sure it hasnt been discuss skul, atleast not while ive been here. so unless you looked it up you are wrong. and i also agree that it doesnt necesarilly mean that he was in love with her, but considering the type of guy he was, I would see him doing whatever he could ot make her happy, even setting her up with guts. but here it is gonna be more of interpretation i guess :P.

he also could have wanted more for her besides griffith's dream. also, if you remember his personality, he is considered the jack of all trades and not a specialtist. thats sortof how it went with casca, he would have been great for her...if it wasnt for griffith and guts. he knew she would never leave griffith for him, so get her to leave him for guts. but how the hell would i truly know what he was thinking  (besides the fact i held miura up at gun point and made him tell me everything about berserk )

OK, I did sth I usually don't do for a discussion:
looked it up in the manga. Then watched the anime again.
Now I saw the anime first, and it does suggest a little more that he was in love with Casca, but I still think that this is how it was...what reason would Miura have for suggesting this so much?
J just has his special ways...man, he's cool!

well he would do it because its so human. miura has a way to capture human feelings that these characters could be real.

I think he loved her...but then again she was the only girl in the Hawks.

btw, what does sth mean?

From what I gather...When The Hawks did Vol 14 they left out the Berserk Prototype because Skullknight hadn't released the translation for the Prototype. They release the translation months after the Vol 14 was put out by The Hawks...they just never went back and revised it.

I know this in a n00b question but i couldn't find this anywhere. Does anybody know how often Berserk is released i japan is it every week or once a month.

I believe it's bi-weekly, with the author taking frequent breaks.

I think Judeau was in love with Casca. How do you know he wasn't shy with girls? He's pretty young, and the only girl you ever really see him around is Casca (although i'm sure as a merc he met lots of girls..)

However!
Who was worried about Casca not being able to take the heat when leading the Hawks? Judeau! who brought her meals and told Guts to join again so Casca wouldn't have a breakdown? Judeau! Besides, in manga, true love means you'll help the other person become happy, not get them for yourself. So if Judeau thought Casca would be happier with Guts, he'd try to get them together.

fine just ignore me then :P heh. and dont worry skul, in other thread it woulda been appropriate to call my ass on it :D, seeing as how it should be obvious to anyone who has read the manga for their third time (which it was for me )

Gosh, I only read individual chapters max twice.

So it seems to me Mr that you wanna overcomplicate Judeau, when he is only an altruistic young man head over heels in love with a girl he wanted to make happy and protect. Sad, so very sad.
