Yes he knew. Read volume 5 again.

What is good?-Whatever augments the feeling of power, the will to power, power itself, in man.
What is evil?-Whatever springs from weakness.
What is happiness?-The feeling that power increases-that resistance is overcome.

He only knew that Griffith was important after seeing the Egg of the Emperor. Otherwise, no. Zodd wouldn't have known, and would have killed Griffith with no mercy, if he didn't carry the Behelit around with him. In other words, Zodd knew Griffith would become a God Hand, because of the Behelit he carried, and not because of the person himself.

It's in volume 5, not chapter 5.

the reason Zodd saw the behelit is because it wanted him to see it. they seem to have a way of guiding fate. it will always find its way to its master, and help its master at critical moments. it saved griffith a few times.

Nah, I realized at the end of my post that the brand is actually a blessing instead of a curse. Its a great radar and Guts already declared war on all the evil astral beings (even though he's softened up now) so its his best friend now.

It's more like he's going to die from severe blood loss before getting within twenty feet of Femto.

Can't remember, but...does his neck was bleeding a lot when he got near Griffith in the Hill of the Swords? I don't think so...he fought Zodd and was quite near him - I think he'll be affected like when he was with Femto in the Count arc.

That is another way of showing us that Griffith dropped considerably in power to be reborn (methinks).

ts not the blood loss, but the pain. stronger the monster - stronger pain, and if the demon is too strong, he basically faints because he cannot bear the pain. so why do you think the berserkers armor was introduced into the story? so that Guts could approach Femto/Griffith without feeling the pain!;)

oh and thanx for the release!;) better later then never..:))

yeah berserker armor is cool, but after Gatts put that armor his human self become weak and now he needs the armor to continue fighting ( well the cut in his chest made by Silan was a reason ) i think that this armor is sucking Gatts mental sanity , i just hope that he doesn't be crushed by that thing at the end.

Dude, it’s not a blessing, it’s definitely a curse. The damn thing literally attracts all manner of monsters to him. Yeah, it helps to alert him of their presence, but it’s like a huge fucking neon sign pointing at him saying, “Dinner”. They can literally sense the brand from miles away, and will seek it out, that's never a good thing, especially for Casca. The whole point of trying to kill the God Hand, is to dispell the brand, so that him and Casca can live in peace. He's already chosen a life with Casca over his own revenge. However, his revenge ultimately leads to the same road, so that's convenient, heh.

When has he ever fainted from the pain of the brand? Besides, he was already able to approach Femto in volume 3, and take a swing at him, before being blown back. However, the Berserker Armor will definitely help. By the way, our release of the last chapter was on time, so I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe you mean you just DL'ed it or something *shrugs*.

And what better way to dispel the God hands then to let them know where you are! ^_^ And Caska is insane, I don't care about her and I know guts is starting not too or at least seeing that there is no reason to keep her around. I'm not re-reading the manga again cuz of school but the volume where he started to think that was moderately recent. It may have been the dog that was telling him that now that I think about it. But yea, if you are warring with the demons, and the brands attract them (which it only attracts the ghosties at night --- apostles obviously can't sense him cuz of the brand as they always notice it and make comments on it...)

Also on the getting close to Femto thing, Guts already did when the sluggy Baron was dying and the blood was pretty much shooting out of his neck. (femto even commented on it being unbearable around GodHands) Guts reeled back for a second but then managed to pull himself together and used the pain to fuel his swing at Griffith which was then shielded by an invisible forcefield or something of the sorts.

Griffith reminds me of akid who sucks at a video game...he keeps getting beat (Guts left) and so he uses the invincible cheat code (Behelit).

I generally think that the getting attacked by ghosts every single night, and even during the day if its cloudy, by far and away makes the brand more trouble then it's worth, if all it did was let him sense Apostles (although that problem is now being countered by the witch, so that's ok). The brand has some other nifty features as well, of course. It seems to make him physically stronger (at least Schierke thinks so) and possibly allows him to take additional damage without dying (so that he can feel more pain for the God's Hand). These are all cool features, but the big problem, that more then counters all of that, and is plenty of reason for Guts to want to get rid of the thing, is that it guarentees that when you die, your soul gets sucked into hell. Thus, is very much a bad thing.

Seriously, know one wants to go the maelstrom. Hm, interesting, does it say somewhere that the brand grants him the ability to take more damage, and increases his strength, because I think those are just some of his natural abilities. I mean, look at the beating he took from Wylde prior to the eclipse. I can't really imagine it having any positive effects, which at least extra strength would be. The fact that it burns with pain and bleeds in the presence of monsters is a side-effect, which Gatts just uses to his advantage. Nifty form of adaptability, but not meant to be a positive trait, I'm sure.

Hah, the Berserker armor will help with the pain, perhaps, not with the gallons of blood shooting out of his neck.

Evil or Very Mad
But I'd assume it'd get a bit tiresome if they attack you while you sleep, or eat, or attack, anyone you like, anyone you know, anyone who helps you, or anyone who glances at you But other than that, it's not prob.

Well, in his situation, it's certainly a blessing. It would really suck if the brand just stayed there without doing nothing, and you had to wait for the monster to come without warning.

yep, I meant better to download latter than never:)

about approaching Femto, well I don’t think he could fight and not even talking about killing him with that kind of pain. In same 3rd volume it became quite obvious

Finally i finished checking up the forum and i am now ready to begin posting again...

As for the issue of the brand, it can never be a good thing. As far as all those abilities that have been stated here , i think Guts already had it all. the brand is - like a lot ppl said - just a giant magnet to demons and apostles.

The armour is just one weapon Guts has a his disposal. True that it drains him a lot but the (real?) ability that provides, i think goes a long way in helping him defeat all those crazy bastards.

As for this chapter, i think it's the end of a cycle for Berserk. i strongly believe the next thing we see is Elfhelm... (but i'm known to be wrong so don't make any bets :P ). Great chapter as usual and one can only dream of what Miura has planned from here on.

Who knows, maybe next few chapters will be about that Misterious Child, that would be completely unexpected and quite typical for Miura, who is known for his habit to leave buried guns all over the place and use them later in the story.

I don't know, but I just feel that this Child has his own agenda that is about to be revealed. Who would have known back in volume 10 that Kushans would become such important element of the story? I mean right now Guts & co are on their way to that elf island so they are temporaly out of action (any sea battle against some dumb pirates would just be a filler and I hope Miura knows better), Griffith is a war hero and Kushan emperor will need a lot of time to recover from his wounds. Only two persons that now have complete freedom to act are Skullknight and that child.

Of course I could be completely wrong.

Hmmm, I recall it is because of the brand that Gatts is in the "world between" (between the astral and the real world) and that his body actually increases in strength partially because of that (mind you, the ability to increase is Gatt's, but the opportunity presented by the world between is the mark's). By no means am I saying that the mark is a blessing but if you consider the possibility that Gatts may have never returned to see Griffith's ascension (stupid theory here), he may not have the necessary tools to defeat Femto later (if he cares).

Nevertheless, about the armor. I do not think that it is actually decreasing his own strength. I mean, does the armor work when the helmet is off? It seems that the only way Gatts is capable of using the pain relieving aspect of the armor is when he's in berserk mode. After healing when Farnese visits her father, it seems Gatts makes really short work of the pussies that he attacks the nobles.

I wouldn't by any mean say he got weaker even when he dealt with the big fish without the benefits of the armor's berserker mode.

Just my two cents.

I'd expect to see something about Griffith and the neo hawks now

Time to drop the hamma!! Not really but I'm getting irritated by people thinking that apostles are attracted to Guts' brand. So, I want to hear an example of an apostle running up to Guts and saying "hey, I sensed your brand so now I'm here to fight you!!!" ....sha...right, and Wyld might fly outta my butt! ^_^ The ghosties are the only ones and they are reeally just a nuisance, not a threat to Guts. He fights them all the time and he's used to it. The seal from the witch may alleviate some of the the pain but it still gushes, the main purpose for that seal is so the chosties don't hunt down Guts every time the sun goes down and he can get some sleep. Because before that, he never got any sleep...just check out the Lost children arc.

Yea, they finished up the fight and sent Guts and co. sailing but still left Griffith in the town so I'm guessing it will be a nice chapter of Griffith receiving the credit for thrwarting the attack. Or them back at the camp...either way, it should be of the Neo's.

I often wondered about that. Most apostles have no qualms on eating people without brands, so what exactly does the brand do?

I'd suppose it's like a homing beacon for them, but why go there when you can here here? The brand is supposed to represent the pain and suffering and whatnot of those sacrificed for the creation of the apostle or Godhand. More likely than not, it's symbolic, especially since no one's supposed to escape the ceremony.

But what strikes me odd is that, if the brand is supposed to mark the devil's property, who's there that you need to mark property instead of just taking it? You don't write your name on your lunchbox is you're the only person on the island.

quit the opposite i think. while at first when he was alone his inner demon was tempting him, he has never been more resolute in his goal than now i think.

your best example would be the very first apostle he fought after the eclipse. but other than that it seemed that apostle didnt really notice it...

you know what? I completely forgot about that guy!!! He did just pop up out of nowhere and while he didn't notice the brand or comment on it he did seem as if he was drawn there...but no other apostle has been drawn like that since. Maybe because they all seem to have an agenda. i think he may have been brought in just so guts could test the Dragonslayer but that's unlikely...Good call....I formally retract my previous statements! ^_^

EDIT: just read through that chapter again and the guy "followed the smell of left-overs" cuz his nose never lies. And left overs aren't good....wierd...the brand bled to but just a dribble. And also a couple pages later during the fight Guts comments on it being like a game or a hunt, that the apostles hunt the strongest prey...God seeing Guts fight like that again...makes me wish Berserks fight would juicen up instead of all this Final Fantasy crap...^_^ j/k I know there's more good stuff to come, just mimicking the haters...muahahahaha
