honestly, I just got caught up with it myself and I'm SOOO dissappointed. It is becoming more and more like a generic fantasy manga, nothing all that special. Even Guts doesn't seem quite as cool anymore because he looks kinda silly when he is all half in the armor/ half himself.
Plus this is getting way too predictable, there needs to be another big plot twister soon, me thinks.

Meanwhile, I completely disagree. I think the story is still plenty fresh, but I'm always looking forward to a plot twist.

Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about with it becoming predictable. I mean, it's predictable in that we know this is a big fight that won't end soon and the next chapter will be more fighting. So? Miura knows how to pace his story, even if it makes some of his readers want to tear their hair out of their heads in frustration (like me

).
Out of sheer curiosity, how do you define a "generic dark fantasy," and how is Berserk becoming one?

The only predictable things so far is
1)that Gatsu is trying to reach the elf king to get Caska healed
2)He wants to down Griffith.
3)We can expect a lot of killing.
Except from that Miura can plot and twist all he wants, you never knows who will die and live in berserk and thats why its my nr 1 manga.

Well, we can be pretty sure that Guts at least will live till the end of the series (though he might die then, we'll see). But other then that, I agree that it's often hard to be sure who'll live.

60 Warlock, Horde, Cenarius Server o.O
WoW > Crack.
Any story can be predictable without being bad. 99% of the stuff that is out there is predictable and I have nothing wrong with it, a lot of it is even great writing. If people didn't borrow ideas from others and develop them into new things then there would really be no progress in literature, so the negative connotations to 'predictable' need to be dropped.

To a limited degree. If a story becomes too predictable it generally becomes very bad, but Berserk is far from that level of predictability.

And don't forget that it's been going on for 16 years now, first published 89-90. Predictable? Possibly readers becoming more educated!

I have recently forced a friend to read the manga, and he was incredibly shocked with Casca being raped. It was so unexpected at that time for me, that he told me why I didn't warn him about it. He had some emotional attachment to Casca I guess, so it kinda disturbed him a bit.

WOW!..... I guess that can be done to a person when you get so into the story and the great developement and background that each character have. To be honest even knowing it's just something that I'm reading, lie to you not i felt like Guts when she got raped also.

It's one of the signs of a good author, that the characters become "real" to the readers, and so they are actually upset/sad when bad things happen to them.

I think altough it was humiliating and degrading and all that , she kinda enjoyed it . Atleast in the manga.
Or maybe not...

I wouldn't bet on that. Not on a million years.
She could probably find an explanation to his behavior, but I'm almost sure she didn't like it.

heh heh heh... didn't I own masterei on this topic back in DP?
For those that didn't catch it the first time around, she was raped however she did get into it. Re-read the manga, that was the point to describe the absolute betrayel between Griffith and Guts and Caska and Guts.
Had some hob-knob on DP trying to argue on the grounds that those that are raped don't get an sexual gratification from rape, which is patently false. There are documented cases where women while raped do orgasm and achieve sexual gratification.

Could be...
Anyway, I saw parts of the ending in a music video, so I was quite aware that demons would run amock on earth, and Griffith would change into a Femto, and even that Caska would be raped...but I never expected that this would be the end of the anime...
Even though I knew what was to come, it was very dramatic and somewhat shocking. Great job Miura!

well the anime only ended that way because it was canceled due to it being to bloody for television...

According to Miura in one of his interviews, he ended it that way so that viewers that are interested will read his manga.
In a sense, it was just a big advert for his manga.

ahh i heard differently. in a sense it really worked, but now i think he has deprived us of an anime for too long. my brother told me about how the televised version of berserk was pretty censored in comparison to the anime...and i can see why lol

Well, it was certainly an effective tactic. One of the first things I did after seeing the end of the anime was try to track down the manga so that I could find out what happened after that
huge cliffhanger.
