This is definitively a level up, but that's only expected for this king of manga. The point is it's happening to the main character after 40+ freakin volumes. Just that is a remarkable feat. Considering the mangakas work up to now, you should trust him more and don't be too quick on your criticals feet. Patience, explanation will come, when the straw hats see this gears business we will have this explanation.

Edit: now that I think about it this midget thing remind me of one of my favorite anime looooong time ago. Don't know the english name, it was about a gang of dumbasses in a high school, that were becoming midgets when entering some kind of silly mode, and they would do all kind of outrageous stuffs in this form. Midget Luffy remind me of this.
i think the shrinking has to do with luffy's abilities. rubber can be compressed as well as stretched. it will explain why the girl and her pet did not shrink as well.

Well from the 404 chapter view it's more like a side effect, and that sucks if that happened while fighting. This move must be a finisher, or Luffy's screwed.

Whahaah One Piece chap 406 was released by Grey... afterwards it seemed there was a password on the rar... It was all an april fools joke with pics of shrimps in the file.
I figured as much when I saw that torrent. After looking around some though, I found out that 406 will come out next week since Oda came down with something this past week.
