I have been lurking around this forum for quite some time making the occasional post. But for all safety I decided to post this one here in the newbie discussion thread.

There have been countless topics/posts/theory's whatever about the origin of Guts/Gatsu's name.
I hope this theory hasn't been mentioned before , but it sounded like a rather plausible one .

I study Japanese at University and for this semesters exam we had to study amongst other things "giongo" & "gitaigo" which means Onomatopoeia & Mimesis in English. If you don't know what that means check it out in a dictionary or wikipedia. It are grammatical terms.

So I was looking for some more examples of this in Japanese when I came across the "Giongo" :
"GatsuGatsu" .
This is used to express a thirsty feeling mostly .
The other meaning is more relevant. You'll have to excuse my english but its very hard to translate (especially if you're not native to the english language) :
hankering , longing , yearning for something so bad that it is like being on fire. A burning Desire for something.

Perhaps a bit farfetched but maybe intresting for some people.

That would surely makes sense, but in this case there is little space for theories: the real name is the name Miura wants to see used, period. Everything else is smoke.

Still interesting though.

It's interesting the weird coincidences like that that pop up in language. I'm fairly sure that it's a coincidence, but it's certainly a very appropriate one. Good job in spotting it.

Vol 15 from Darkhorse was coming out on january 31st. Wich means I'll probably receive it next wednesday (at the store they always receive the orders on wednesdays). can't wait. I've re-read volume 9-10 this morning and I just realized that I miss the Caska/Guts development and I can't wait to see what will happen at Elfheim with thoses two.

But this one looked most like fitting for newbie coming out =D

I got in love with the Berserk anime first (like many other people seem to have gotten by the basis of my investigation!!)
And I first thought that the manga would be just exactly the same and didn't really bother to read it ever.

But then it hit me. Somebody said that it's such pity they haven't make anime from all the manga and I got shivers~!
There is actually MORE Berserk as manga...

And I made my huge and terrifying effort reading everything that has been translated in two weeks. And yes, it is my exam week now. Bye bye good numbers, welcome repeat tests!

meh, I havent been a berserkaholic for a long time, my self control is too good to be dying for the next berserk chapter. I mean I did quite drinknig and smoking cold turkey. drinking was easy...and I was only in the early stages of becoming addicted to cigarettes, but still it never really phased me that much waiting 2 months for the next chapter. I realise that a test happens at a specific time, but reading berserk can happen any time .

If he hates manga he obviously hasen't read BERSERK, I've gotten people who are die hard against manga, to be interested just by telling them how much of a bad ass Gattsu is. (simply put, he cleaves many people in half with a single swing ) So show it to him get another fan, BERSERK can never have too many. and even if he still is against it eff that guy keep it on the comp.

Maybe I should just show him the most porn parts and he'd be in love -.-
