Welcome to the new forums!

Post by psi29a »

Welcome to the new forum folks!

The fun is just getting started, and I have bigger and better plans as the time progresses. As always, if something isn't working quite right, please let me know here. Please note that none of the birthdays transfered over (sadly), there isn't a youtube/gvideo hack yet (i'll work on that soon), and of course it is just too damn bright and no forums based spell check (firefox has it built in now, use that, its better anyway).

To address the brightness issue,I've been working on a new template so feel free to take a gander. Go wild with it, the data there will be purged eventually.

no worries man, thought i would end that thread quick and divert traffic here.

the theme needs to be darkened a bit and i sometimes get lost in the threads (it all blurs together in the lightness).

Also, if you feel you can do better, by all means show us what you got and help us build a kick-ass forum template.

Damn, I'm being attacked by a bunch of new features. Looking forward for the new template, my eyes hurt from so much white.

Hey psi, I thought I was special ;) This is nothing like the forum look you showed me in msn at all. It was grey and alot nicer then this one. This one is ok. But the grey one wasnt as obnoxiously as white as this one :)

But its easy getting use to, but its a big change from dark as hell to light as hell. Funny adjustment to see the avatars to the right instead of to the left.

But overall...niiiice!

I haven´t been on track with the new template issue, is this one final? Because it´s not very easy to the eyes.

Sorry, but I really do not like the new set up. I am sure all the new features are cool, but it is very very odd visually. Avatars and profile info on the right does not make any sense to me.

I like the new forum, except for the new wording for some of the buttons and the AVs on the right, it might give it more of a Japaness feel but I dont think I could get use to it.

Well it is still a work in progress, there is entirely to much white left and I'm not finished. :D

There is one bug that starnum found and that is that some avatars do not display properly and this is because for whatever reason, image processing libraries in php didn't recognize the dimensions of the image correct. To correct this (look at sandman's as an example) is to go into your UCP (user control panel) and enter in the dimensions of your avatar and that should fix the stretchy issue.

Yes, there is still some unreadable text/colors, i'm working on them one at a time as I find them and as I have the time. It is ugly, and i'll get right on it. :D

I will need to get used to this, but if this works for you then it's great.

I have one quarrel: I find it difficult to look for new posts. I know, I'm bitching. However the old template was pretty slick, new posts were white and flashy, and I grew accustomed to that. Any possibility to increase the contrast between read/unread posts?

Edit: I just noticed the little band next to the avatars indicating online status. Nice.

I totally agree, the current icon set is kinda... well, crap.

I can 'port' the old icons over which looked like mail envelopes and where bright when unread and dark when read.

I've hopefully knocked out all white crap (non images), so if you see any lemme know please.

Indeed, I don't really have too much of an issue with the colors in the icons vs the rest of the bgoard, but the icons themseves
are hard to read, I can't tell what's got new stuff and what doesn't. Fix that and the whole backwards avatar thing and you've got my vote! Great stuff so far Psi.

Whatever is easier for you. I don't necessarily mind the new icons, just the color scheme. Everything else is a matter of taste really, because overall everything is just as functional as it used to be. I don't want to be the old coot afraid of novelty.

*Sigh of relief* Ah, darker tones make the elven king happy. I knew you'd come through Psi. Don't worry guys, I know things are a little janky at the moment, but I personally like having the newest version of php on our board. Also, trust in Psi, you know he'll do us right, and do whatever's in his power to make the board as good as he can. ;)

Damn, now I have to fix my av.

Too bad links no longer open up a new window. I got lazy from the previous forums now that I have to right click links again.

All in all, nice forums though. Great job Psi.
