I use the Layer-to-Multiply method when coloring.
Other than that put a layer with lighteffects n other stuff >above< the lineart.
For example:

layer1 [lights] (mode:screen)
layer2 [lineart] (mode:multiply)
layer3 [color] (mode:default)

Very simple!

Onwards, i'm not gonna be able to color anything this week. Too much friggin' homework.

Maybe as a payment for more colorings you could get the crew here at Mindwerks to pitch in and help you with the homework? I would...I love your colorings and if you do the pics I posted, I will bend over and invite you to make me gay. ^_^ But only for you...hahaha
That's right!! Another pointless post by me bitches!!! HA!

Hahahaha that was classic! Man, those guys over there at Berserk Chronicles really get down and dirty with the fanart. I got a long ways to go before I even tap into that kind of power. Time to pull the pencil out of my ass and have at it!!

k.
Now I'm confused as to what the 'lights' layer is...
Is it possible for you to post a screencap of your layers of what they look like?
I'm still getting the same dulled out colour in the shading in Kentaro's lineart.

I *finnally* got a tripod! I couldn't wait to take pics of my figure again. Now I didn't spend a whole lot of time on this, nor did I try any other angles or lighting, so I'm damed amazed how well this came out. Also, there's no way in hell I'd get this kind of lighting without the tripod, nor would it be as sharp.
So if you thought my work was good before, I expect things will get even better.

Image

Now before you say "too dark," I was clearly going for that. "Too dark" is a bit vague and obvious, so if you really thing the lighting/exposure is bad it would be nice if you elaborated a little more.
Anyone know any good photography message boards? I think I'm ready to step up to that level at this point.

I have to confess, I'm not crazy anymore about how well these came out. They arn't so great. This tripod's gonna take some getting used to.
For the most part, I feel like the images have lost any life they had. The natural motion that imperfect angles gave to the images is gone.
So, until I get the hang of this thing I'm probably not going to have anything post-worthy.

Natural motion has its own charm, as does the perfect angles. The catch is using the right style at the right time. Some pictures need the tripod perfection while others need the imperfection of holding the camera. It depends on if you are trying to caption something beautiful for its imperfection or something for its perfection.

In a way I think the problem was that the tripod made me lazy. I kind of thought it would do all the work while I got the credit :D
I'm only now seeing it's just making the challenge harder. I'm trying to take a lifeless, inanimate object and trying to make it look human. If I'm using the camera to take a picture of something natural and animate, this'll really help make things easier.
Hopefully my next attempt will be a better sucess. They arn't terrible, just boring.
See what I mean?

well I don't like it anyway

Yeah I see what you mean on that one. The one in the dark looks really cool, though. Probably since the lighting adds a cool feel to it.

As for bringing inanimate objects to life in film and photography, that is a challenge on its own. I do think the dark picture was really good, but the one in the light is kinda bland.

Yhea, it seems only the really dark ones worked. Here's one more that was really dark, and might actually make a good avatar when cropped.
Unlike all the rest, I havn't bothered to manipulate this one in photoshop yet. All I do is adjust the colors and levels of contrast, so it's not too big a differance.

Yeah that one looks alot better.

For the lighter ones you may want to try blurring them a bit to give it a similar feel to if the figure was actually moving when the picture was taken. Not sure how to do it properly, though. But that is one of the things when a picture is taken of a moving object the object blurs some. Thats what they do in stop motion today so it looks better than the classic stop motion of old.

for the first dark one, i like it but it seems to be void of action. I think its just that there is so much black in ratio to guts, due to the length of his sword. I think the reason why the dark pictures may look better than the light is because its give the effect as if guts is coming out of the darkness, and that the glare from the shadows is a popular image for badasses. for the light photos, is there any way that you could put him in an action pose. also i think a big problem with trying to bring life to an action figure is the eyes. if guys were to have some sort of emotion to his eyes that would help a lot (though i don't think there is anything you can do about that heh)

I took a few more pics of the figure, and I think I had more success. Here's the best of this batch.
I just tried not to care too much about the composition. I didn't go out of my way to set up a mini-studio that I usually do, I just took pics of the figure in it's natural habitat, on top of my speaker.

Who wants to see this as my future av? :D
