eBay is pretty safe if you know what you're doing.

That being said, I think that listing you posted might not be your best bet.

It's a new seller with zero feeback that is asking $50 for a brand new product that costs $250.

Sometimes, when it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't.

i use ebay quite a bit, typically I trusting of those who have >= 10 and 100% positive feedback. >= 100 and 98% >=500 95% and >= 1000 93%.

That is my pratical quideline, always a good thing to check the person's sales history. Have they sold stuff like that before, or are they sellers of all goods. Most trusteworthy people sell in a niche area of expertise.

That's probably a better choice, though there's no telling how much it'll end up going for.

People on eBay bid up to the very last second of the auction, so be wary of that too.

Realistically, the sale of iPod nanos is very tightly controlled by Apple. If you see one going for less than $250 for some reason, its probably because it's used or there's something wrong with it.

Not that there's anything wrong with a used one simply because it's used.

An Ebay seller might start an iPod nano at less than $250 relying on the generalized stupidity of humanity to bid things higher than they're worth to make a buck. I have honestly seen people bid things like a $25 Walmart gift certificate above their retail value (in that case, $25).

Bottom line - you get what you pay for. Apple has a monopoly on iPods. There's no reason they would sell one for substantially less than the retail price. Given that, if you find one somewhere that costs less than retail - it would seem very likely that it is so priced for a very good reason.

Good luck with your search. Depending on your needs, you might pick up an off-brand player or a CD based MP3 player. I've had particularly good luck with CD based players. Realistically, if you can't make due with 10 hours of music at a time, there is something wrong with you.

I'm not sure an ipod nano is such a good idea. I was thinking on getting one myself but... Not long ago there were many complaints about scratching issues(basically it scratched from simply being in your pocket), I don't know if the situation's gotten better, but if it has I'm sure someone will provide us with an update.

Edit:

All iPods get scratched easy. And most of the cases are ugly. All you really have to do is use it up for a year and return it with the iPod warranty.

I lol'ed at masterei's post.

It's always funny to see the guy come back every few months only to get flamed to hell and back.

Let's see where his latest venture in the forum takes us.

Lurker's are always funny.

I was a bit surprised when I saw masterei as the last poster before.
