I totally agree with you on that one! I'm so happy he won his 4th! He narrowly got beat in 06 to American Phill Pfister. Super Mario! Thats my fellow f*cking countryman! Strong like OX and cocky as hell. zaden madafaka nie podskoczy do polaka!

He he! Only the epitome of manliness, Mariusz, can put that old question to rest: Can a human being use such a weapon?

I was at a convention where someone had a sword that was the same weight and size as the dragonslayer and he was seeing who could lift it. The damn thing was taller than me, and we were only allowed to lift it by the handle, which was too short. I could handle the total weight, but not the weight displacement. So, I turned around and lifted it with my back :P. This really tall girl could lift it the right way. I think my balls shrank when she did.

I also bought a Guts plushie over the internet and when it got mailed home my dad looked on the box and was completely confused. He honestly thought that it was an actual plushie of people's internal organs. Now that gives me an idea ....

Aaahahahaha! Damn, that was funny. But it confirms my stand on "Women are very capable of being stronger than men."

Well, my argument was that I was 15, 5'5" and she was 6'3". I could lift the darn thing, just not by the handle alone. But it was a humbling moment, I can say that much. At least Roderick has a tiny sword (don't make any sex jokes) and a big boat to ride on, so I'll be cool with his devlish charm to woo the ladies (convention talk), not the overbearing strength of a dude like Guts.

I guess now we know why he has a big boat. :)

Ha ha ha, sorry man, but you set that up too well to pass up.

Yes, but he's still a quick witted lady killer. And dude, he can get even Guts to talk to him, he's got a real charm. It will be interesting when Caska gets her memory back how all of the relationship stuff will work out. I bet you the chapters after that happens will be full of it.

Roderick is definitely a cool dude and is not like other Midlandians. When faced by demons, Magnifico showed his cowardice (which is what most people do) and even Farnese tried to deny that such creatures could even exist. Roderick just stayed cool and remained back while letting Guts do his thing. His cool-headedness reminds me a little bit of Judeau as well. The only problem is he isn't that developed character, so I can see him dying unexpectedly to further the plot and drive the action to a mini-climax in this part of Berserk's story.

Actually I think for the short period of time we met Roderick, his character has been very well-developed. In fact, after reading through some of the dialogue ascribed to Roderick's character, I have come to appreciate Miura more and more, for his ability to "characterize" his characters in the truest sense of the word.

When Roderick was first introduced, I was probably not alone in rolling my eyes, along with surmising and anticipating how and when we would get to see Gut's stomp this fool out. But as much as I had fashioned my POV at first, it didn't take long to see that this guy was an extermely likable chap. Although its pretty clear the guy is a lady's man, says all the right things when the time calls, and a badass naval officer......he is presented in a way that allows the reader to identify with.

I view Roderick as a contradiction of sorts, possessing a sense of self-confidence that is both unrelenting yet unassuming.

Regarding Roderick's future in this story is a tough call. Right now, besides having a ship, just what kind of role will/can Roderick play in regards to Gut's party and overall journey, is tough to ascertain.

No question with Roderick, Miura has fashioned a very likable, well-written character that readers can and will certainly bond to....... like Judeau (seems everyone makes that comparision).

So we all know, as much as we hate to imagine it, Miura has a way of ripping the heart out of the reader by violently retracting those individuals introduced in the story, that we have all given in to investing so much in emotionally.

So in time we can look forward to Roderick falling victim to an unconcionable fate. Full of tragedy, sacrifice, and ghastly horror! :thumb:

Yes, let's all hope Roderick gets killed so that we feel all the more connected to the story.

Certainly I hope Roderick sticks around for a long time. He is a great character with depth, as with each chapter he continues to unveil that he is more than his "class", and proves himself useful during even situations were is was out of his element. His way with words and ability to say the right thing at all times, comes an ability to read other people. Just by reading his comments and thoughts often serves as a good glimpse into the mind of someone living in that world.

So basically, he's Judeo with black hair. 8)

Not that that would be a bad thing, but there are an aweful lot of similarities between those two.

About Roderick dying, I just get this feeling that he's not going to be around for long, and he might even unexpectedly die by his pal Magnifico's hands...thing is, I'm just speculating about all that, and it could just be that Roderick reminds me of Judeau. In the end, all this talk will either be supported or refuted once Miura writes out Roderick's fate.

Though I realy dislike anyone comparing Judeau with Roderick (as Judeau is my favorite dead Hawk :P ) its inevitable.
Think about it. Judeau was often the link between Gutts/Griffith/Caska. He was the only one who communicated with Gutts about his relationship with Caska and such.

I see the same thing being Rodericks role. As far as I can recall no one in Gutts company ever directly asked Gutts what his relationship with Caska was. Then all of a sudden Roderick pops the question. Hes going to be around for a while, if only for the purpose of developing other characters relationships.

Lets just hope he doesn't get a thing for Gutts like all the other women...

I think that the thing between Roderick and Guts is all fraternal. And no offense to fans like Judeau fans out there, I myself am one, but Judeau was captured up by the brilliance that was Griffith and was caught up by his dream. Roderick seems much more independant than he does. And I reread all of Berserk lately, and even though Judeau appears in more books that Roderick, Roderick at this point has had almost more face time. Roderick is his own man and won't be sucked in by anyone elses charm. He's the charmer anyways. Also, Roderick, is more of the inverse of Judeau, like him but also opposite. He's a leader, Judeau was a follower. Judeau was a jack of all trades, Roderick is a master of sailing. Judeau met Caska first but never told her he loved her, while Roderick met Farnese after Guts and has tried to woo her, although not fully sincere the first few times. Nah, Roderick looks like he'll last quite a bit longer than Judeau.

Anyways, I think this thread alone warrants that I make a Roderick plushie.

- RODERICK is like Judeau all grown up.

Also based on the lifestyle and environment, its hard to fault Judeau for his lack of "game". Especially considering Caska was pretty much off limits being his superior and Griffith's right-hand, until Guts arrived.

And even Guts was caught up in Griffith's dream, till that time on the steps the night of the assassination.

But I believe Judeau did a lot of growing as a leader, since when Griffith was taken away by the King. Go back and listen to his discussion with Guts out in the Meadow, in the scene where the Hawks were gathered contemplating their future right before the eclipse. It appeared Judeau was ready to take the lead, assuming Caska and Guts would go off together on their own.

Fuck It, Even Zodd is caught up in the facade of Griffith.......And we all know Zodd ain't no bitch.

- THE BIGGEST difference between the two in terms of how they are percieved lies within Judeau's inate humility. Roderick is certainly cocky, and exceedingly self-confident. He showed off his gift of bravado when introduced himself to Farnese (that lead even Magnifico scratching his head), a Bravado Farnese's mother certainly picked up on.

He clearly has trouble taking a back seat to anyone (even to Guts), and is certainly not used to it.
If you recall, in a clear show of gamesmanship, without hesitation, he officially introduces himself up to Guts (in the dance hall after the tiger fight) grabbing Guts full attention with a sharp elbow. A "friendly" confrontation initiated by Roderick, realizing he had just taken a backseat to Guts in regards to Farnese's focus of attention.

Even during the fighting scenes in the city, Roderick refused to sit out on the sidelines. And while on the boat, on the high seas, made it clear to everyone that it was his show in the pirate attack.

BTW.....besides the SK, Puck, if you think about it, and maybe Griffith coming to Gut's aid against Zodd and going back to help out Gut's in a raid when he first joined the Hawks: By Roderick going in and recuing Guts from drowning, that was one of the few times Guts found himself being rescued by another human.

both Judeau and Roderick put guts on the spot about what caska is to him, judeau before guts fought griffith and roderick before caska fell overboard.

ps.to me it was kind of similar
Chuck Norris was originally offered the role as Frodo in Lord of the Rings. He declined because, "Only a pussy would need three movies to destroy a piece of jewelery

Yeah, Roderick is very similar to Judeau, I'll admit that much. And EVERYONE get caught up by Griffith. But, the point made that Roderick is almost the only human to ever have directly saved Guts is pretty important. Though, Shierke and the baby did cleanse his mind and save him mentally, and Serpico and Isidro certainly assisted him, Roderick actually saved him from drowing. The first time I decided I liked him was when he first said hello to Guts, where he knocked on his breast plate and said, 'Yo chief'. Even Guts cracked a smile.
