So, uh, why is she also waving a rainbow flag? That is one confused lady.

Re: Gummy Bears Scream When You Boil Them (sort of)
You've gotta be pretty screwed up to one day think "Hmmm... I wonder what's the best way to annihilate a gummy bear?"

Re: SECRET NEW PLAN FOR EU SUPERSTATE
The real human tragedy is that someone else's morality and sense of justice that is in the majority will over-rule your own. We see the case where Federal law supersedes that of local law for better or worse. The only absolute solution is to move, but a majority of people can't do that either. So, ...

Re: SECRET NEW PLAN FOR EU SUPERSTATE
I've never been called an extremist before... I would have thought "we have to stop the US" was the extreme view. I guess "counterbalance" was the wrong word to use if it suggests that. Maybe "exert a steadying influence" is more appropriate. I'm no political sc...

Re: SECRET NEW PLAN FOR EU SUPERSTATE
You read the daily express psi??? I particularly love how they bring immigration into every vaguely political article.
EU Superstate's the way forward though. We need some coherence for the power to counterbalance US foreign policy

Re: What are you reading?
I read a brief review of Man Plus, it sounds cool. Frederick Pohl seems to be obscure enough that most of his books are missing Wikipedia entries. Thats quite a recommendation I read Jem a while back, that was really trippy stuff about intelligent clouds and stuff.

Re: New Yorkers Are Stupid
But come on... I'm far from a fan of Bush but you can't blame him for people not knowing the ninth month of the year. Or for failing to ask "Um, why do we call it 9-11?"

Re: What are you reading?
I wish paperbacks were cheap in Britain. £8 for a new one is just too much for me. But it won't be long til e-paper really kicks off and we can start downloading them for a pound or two I reckon. That'll be awesome

Re: What are you reading?
Nah, it's political again. The main guy is a diplomat of sorts. It's fascinating cos it focuses on individuals and big shifts in society too. Dick, Asimov and Clarke are among my favourites. I think Gibson can be great but he's often a bit samey. Like he stretches his ideas sometimes, you know? I've...

Re: What are you reading?
Yeah, I love it :D I actually became an engineer because of SF! I've been reading some cool 80's stuff in the last couple of years. Bruce Sterling in particular was awesome back then. You should read Schismatrix plus. It's a novel followed by a few short stories. The novel follows this one guy who e...
Re: Zetman
I thought it was pretty quick moving. Probably cos I read it all in one go! Anyway, any theories on where it's going? I kinda reckon Jin'll be switching sides to keep the players in line rather than exterminating them. He might even end up protecting them from richboy. I mean, most of them are just ...

Re: What are you reading?
I'm reading Red Mars. I tried back when I was a teenager but I didn't have the patience for it. It's totally awesome though. All good scifi needs a question to answer and this one's is "what would happen if 100 people tried to create a new world?" So these 100 people get sent off to coloni...

Re: txt msg hrting englsh skllz? u b the jdge
I don't think this technology related language warping is a phenomenon limited to English. It's slightly different but I know that many Japanese kids (up to and beyond 30 even) really struggle to write Kanji these days. There are about 2000 in everyday use but they always type phonetically on their ...

I've known a couple of doctors and physicists who didn't accept evolution. They didn't vocally refute it, just quietly kept it to themselves unless directly queried. And while I think that respectful debate on any subject is a good thing, perhaps it is better for them to adopt an air of detached mys...
