I think Griffith didn't know exactly what was going to happen, but knew a lot more than he let on. In Volume 12 Chapter 04, when Griffith sees the eclipse and the behelit change, he tries to tell Guts to stay back. This seems to imply that he knew some shit was going down and it was bad news for Guts.

The USA is "No. 1" in nothing but weaponry, consumer spending, debt, and delusion.
