I dunno Aizen seemed to have a hold on them. Remember that he said that "he positioned the divisions" at the time of the invasion. Weird, after that arc it isn't hard to believe that he was SS's strategist. XD He positioned the 3rd, the 5th and the 9th... which were Gin's, his and Tousen'...
