Gamespot got a hands-on with the latest version of Soul Calibur 4, and the game now has what are essentially Fatal KOs like Hokuto No Ken.

Discuss.

I could care less for the critical finisher, but guard breaking is certainly welcome, the game was too much block and poke and gave an unfair advantage to quick fighters.

I have given up on SC I think. But who knows maybe this is what the series needs. Elements like this to benefit the offensive style of play.

Agreed, this looks like it will end the all-time blocking game style at least. If that could even be called a game style.

Yeah too much blocking doesn't make a great fight to either play or watch. So guard breaking really is nice. But I always loved parrying (or whatever it was called in SC) where you'd have to time it really right, but if you got it, you would have a really good opening to land a move on your enemy.

Those fatal KOs are there any videos or descriptions of how they work exactly? Just read up Fist of the North star on wikipedia: Basically the more cool moves you use, the higher the chance that YOUR OPPONENT can finish you instantly? Isn't that kinda backwards?

Guard Impact.

Not really. In HnK each character has a start meter with seven glowing stars under their lifebar (Kinda in the shape of the Big Dipper for the whole North Star reference) Certain moves your perform will take away stars from your opponent. when they have zero stars left they are vulnerable to a "Fatal KO" which unlike Guilty Gear takes no time to "charge" and can be comboed into. If you get Fatal KOed in a round (Other than the last one obviously) you restart the next round with a full gauge, however if you were just knocked out normally or if you won the round, the next round gives you two stars in your gauge. The only exception is a suicide super move that Shin has which kills himself but gives him a full star gauge the next round (It's a reference to his suicide in the manga/anime). the phrasing in the wiki article is just confusing.

WTF indeed. Mortal Kombat has gone downhill pretty much since it went 3D.

Weird Idea.....but the combat engine looks pretty interesting.

BTW.....How could you not have Superman be a gamebreaker?

Johnny Cage or Sonya vs. Superman......too close to call IMO.

yah and it wont have online play, and i would bet that most likely fans of the game would consider this to be a "bad" port, because the hit boxes would be all off now.

They are having all these mangakas creating all these guest characters and they don't even have the most important of all of them. It is sad.

This is the latest revealed character: http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2938 ... 081no4.jpg

A chick with small tits and fully clothed? Wow, Hilde has a new friend.

IT was made by the author of Tenjho Tenge, whatever that manga is. I´m not familiar with it.

They also had the author from Gantz work on one character, which was awesome.

But i wouldn´t be surprised if they picked Miura to do one, if they do he´ll most likely design a male character.

Why is she wearing a fence around her legs?

Horrible character design.

Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom

Ryu, Chun-Li, Casshern and Ken Washio have been confirmed. Expect characters from Speed Racer, Karas, Soul Taker, Samurai Pizza Cats, and maybe even Evangelion to pop up.

Clear screens here http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1215298_1124.html

Now that's how SF2 HD Remix should've looked like.

Battle of the Planets and Street Fighter?

Mind = Blown

That might give me reason to switch back to my old Ken Washio avatar ala Amano.

I assume it's coming to arcades, but is there any word on a port and if so, what system? And has Capcom actually gotten off of their collective lazy asses to develop this or did they just toss it to someone else?

The only thing that has me mildly excited about this game is the Shinkiro artwork.

Fuckin' A, Shinkiro, you awesome motherfucker.

Yeah. I was really excited to see Shinkiro's art. He's my favorite SNK artist... just due to the fact that I grew up looking at his artwork and have seen his talent grow throughout his career.

I... I just don't know what to think anymore. This has just gotten completely out of hand. I honestly cannot say how I feel about Soul Calibur 4 anymore.

The Star Wars nerd in me is bouncing off the walls, the Fighting Game Nerd in me is chasing after the Star Wars Nerd with a knife, and any any rational and logical thoughts I've had about this game have just took a diving leap out of the window.

This game is either going to be the greatest entry in the series, or a miserable failure. There is no third direction.
