Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence and seisouhen

The latest and greatest of Japanese Animation. Found something new, or perhaps old and arcane... if it has to do with anime, it goes right here.

Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence and seisouhen

Post by Sahlen »

I just want to talk a bit about this anime ^^.
I've watched this anime about 5-8 times and I just don't get bored watching it over and over again. But there are some things I don't understand.

1. What does Tomoe try with her tonge in the 4. OVA ?
It's the part when she goes to the shougunate guy at the beginning.

2. What is so special about Okita?
I've heard that he is a famous charakter in japan but why?

3. What does actually Kenshin mean or is it just a name with no special meaning.

4. How did Kenshin get that disease?
Is there any explanation shown in the manga?

Sorry for the many questions. I've asked many peoles in other forums.
But not single of them could answer this questions

Well, telling us to shut up is not the best way to start your first post, my friend. It's not the best way to ask for help either. I will answer your questions for two reasons though, so that we are not seen as merciless haters, and because I kinda like Kenshin. But that's just me though, other people might not be as nice.

1) As far as I know, she tried to commit suicide by biting her tongue off and bleeding to death. I think it was pretty common to do it that way in those times.

2) This one I'm not so sure about. I think it has something to do with him being part of the Shinsengumi and so young at the same time. I also think I heard somewhere that he was actually female and crossdressed to fight alongside the Shinsegumi. He/she was supposedly very powerful too. It's one of those al least, I might be confusing this with other characters though.

3) Not really sure about this one either. I hear "Ken" is sword/technique, and "Shin" is true/heart, so take your pick.

4) That whole disease thing shown is the last OVA was BS. In the manga, Kenshin lived happily ever after with Kaoru and his son. I don't think Watsuki had anything to do with those animations, so it's not official either.

BTW, I'm sure you could've googled these answers rather quickly...
Hope this helped.

Sahlen: Edit your post please. I'll only ask this once.

Perhaps the reason why no one in other forums has answered your questions is because as Fempto said, those answers can be found on Google.

Another reason could be your manners. Telling the forum to "shut up" in your first post, goes a long way to preempt people's wrath. If you don't want to feel the burn, then don't post. Consider this your first warning. Please be a bit more charitable to the forum of which *you* are *asking* for help.

note: plz is spelled please, wana is also spelled wanna. You almost had a good first post if it wasn't for the very first sentence.

Thank you!
I already googled this and I didn't find any answer either.
Sry for being rude but I'm sick of people telling noob noob noob
I so fucking hate this word.
But that's the first thing you're told if you join a new forum.
I can understand that it is really annoying if some newbies join the forum write a topic and than never appear again. But there many peoples who just don't appear again because they think they have made a really bad impression and they won't get an answer anymore.
I just have really bad experiences about this. I'm really sry for saying that.

It is quite alright if you just take the time to be polite and ask questions. We take the time to answer the questions, it is only fair that the one asking questions at least spells common words correctly. We do have a spell check built in as well.

I do commend you for your use of numbers. ^_^

PS: Welcome to the forums, and yes... everyone was once a newbie. You get over it and learn the ropes. That is life.

To answer your question about Okita Soji, he was the youngest member of the Shinsengumi and yet he was a squad leader at the age of 19. Him and Hijikata were said to be the strongest of the Shinsengumi but unfortunately Okita passed away at the age of 20 from Tuberculosis.

To be honest I used the Spell Check.
But I'm so used to to write it that way that I don't see as mistake.
I'll try to do better next time.
My deepest apology for "shut up" again.
I'm happy that there are some forums left which can take some newbies without dissing them. Thanks for the welcome.

I also heard about an anime in which okita plays a really big role.
I've also looked for this anime but no chance.
It tells a story about the shinsengumi itself.

Also, Okita Soji wasn't female or a crossdresser although it wasn't unheard of the members of organizations like the Shinsengumi to disguise themselves as women to get information.

Well, we only diss newbies that deserve it. BTW, Mr. Jotaan answered your second question more precisely, so the only thing that really needs to be answered is the meaning of Kenshin's name. And yeah, some people are really anal about spelling here, myself included.

Welcome to the forums.

Starnum is the keeper of knowledge of all things Kenshin. From his point of view, the Anime isn't worth it and that you MUST read the manga. A lot of your questions can be answered by reading the manga or asking him. I'll poke him later once he gets online.

The disease that afflicts Kenshin in the OVA looks like leprosy.

I would really appreciate that.
I've already thought about reading the manga but there are so many chapters and volumes it would take ages to read them all.
I like the Kenshin in the OVA the one in the series is to kind and doesn't use the sword skills he did in his youth. I've just watched the first 10 episodes and than stopped although I have watched the last episodes but they were incomplete, just a waste of time.

Edit : corrected some grammar

That is what makes it enjoyable, just reading the manga. Not about how fast you can get through the material, but how much you enjoy it. Of course, if you are buying it, it will cost an arm and a leg. Perhaps others here can point you in the right direction for the translated manga.

I think the anime you're looking for is peacemaker kurogane which is all about the Shinsengumi. To figure out the meaning of Kenshin, it would help to know the kanji for it which I don't know unfortunately.

I agree, the manga is a lot better, I have the manga which continues where the anime left off and let me tell you, it's nothing like the anime. It's so much darker and it's awesome :D.

1. Yes you're right but I've already seen most of the story.
The only manga manga which didn't bore me after seeing the anime was berserk and theres the big problem with the money you also mentioned.
I hope someone can do that.

2. A big thanks to you mrJotaan
I'm really interest in those shinsemgumi guys.
Do you think I can watch the anime without getting bored if read the manga afterwards?

I watched tha anime, then read the manga. And the manga was way better. As for the disease he contracts. I think megumi says that its from all the wounds and punishment his body has recieved over the years. That his organs are just failing. Maybe those spolts are internal bleeding? Oh wait nevermind doesnt Kauro get it after they go at it? *sigh* never mind.

Oh yea there was a game called Shinsengumi that came out for ps2. Search for the trailer at

Uh, didn't you read Femto's post? That disease was just bullshit. It had nothing to do with Watsuki's work. Its like DBGT, unassociated with the original creator, and complete shit.

No way, I won't give you that one. There's no way Kenshin would just up and leave them, so it's not even possible. Besides, that desease was an STD, how fucking lame is that!
