Neo OuterHaven: MGO Clan

Post by War Machine »

Welcome to the unofficial Evil_Genius MGO clan Neo OuterHaven
Image

I wanna keep this thread for MGO talk, so to start it, I'm gonna post the CQC tactics I've learned so far. If you wanna post any tips yourself, go ahead.

CQC Knowledge base
- You need to equip CQC+ in your skills to be able to choke people instead of just throwing them to the ground.

- Level 2 CQC+ allows you to hold someone hostage while shooting a gun (hold L1 while choking, must have gun equipped), and level 3 CQC+ allows you make the person you grabbed drop his weapon (as you're grabbing the opponent, let go of R1 and quickly hold it again to make the opponent drop his weapon).

- If you crouch, you have a slightly shorter reach, but you can't be grabbed by people who are standing up. Although, people who are crouching can grab an opponent who is standing up. If you're shooting someone who's trying to grab you, crouching is a good defensive move since they have to crouch and get even closer to be able to grab you.

- If you're being choked or are knocked out, moving both sticks in circles wakes you up faster than moving only one.

- While choking someone, you have a green bar on top of your stamina bar indicating how long you can keep choking the opponent, watch it carefully, if it's about to go to zero, quickly let go of R1 and press it again while moving the stick in one direction to throw them down, which does some extra damage (throw them to your right or left side so they land close to you), afterwards do the Punch Punch Kick combo for an almost fool-proof knock out.

- If you want to make use of the above tactic, it's preferred that you stay standing up so you can do the throw maneuver. Crouching or laying on top of the opponent to choke them has no added effect. Also, time spent standing up, moving around, or holding them hostage while shooting, has no effect on their stamina (meaning that they're not getting choked), but your green bar does go down, so try to keep movements at a minimum.

- If you roll against someone who is crouching or in a box, they will fall down. If they're standing up, the roll will only make them hesitate for a second. So don't crouch if the opponent is rolling a lot.

- If the opponent is rolling a lot, watch where the roll ends. There's a brief moment when finishing a roll where the opponent can't do anything, this is a good moment to crouch (in case he also crouches) and attempt to grab him.

- If you place a Playboy magazine, you are invulnerable to it, so make use of them if they're allowed.

- If knives are allowed in a CQC fight, a good tactic is to throw the opponent to the floor, crouch down, and use the shock capability of the knife. It's an easy combo that's hard to avoid because the shock has a little more reach that will most likely get the opponent as they're trying to roll away or stand up.

- Another more difficult, but efficient tactic to use in a CQC-only fight is to jump back (using L1 + stick back + X) when trying to confront someone face to face. If done right, the opponent will lunge at you failing to grab you, giving you ample time to attack him.

- If you want to perform the throat slice, you need to have Blades level 3 and CQC+ level 1. A fun combination, but not very practical unless you're expecting a small fighting area where knives are allowed.

- And lastly, a simple tip: If you don't know how to use CQC very well, go to the Virtual Range in MGS4. There you can practice any tactic that you want on the holograms (or whatever they are).

Cool, I didn't know that, thanks.

As for the backwards hop (L1+down on the anolog+X), I've found it to be very useful. I've used it several times to get behind an opponent who was just behind me, and most of the time they don't see it coming. ;)

I took some pictures, but ended up throwing away most of them cause they were trash, but expect some pics soon.

Right now I'm experimenting with all the skills, some are pretty cool, others I don't think I'll ever use. A good one that's easy to level up is Sixth Sense, it allows you to see traps and share the data through SOP, the cool thing about this skill is that you can equip the level 3 in a single slot, so it'll easily fit in you skill combination.

Anyway, the clan is growing slowly but surely, so if you have any clan-less friends, invite them over.

I've found out today the cardboard box skill is too useful actually. Take this for an example, your in the box hiding from the enemy. He sees the cardboard box and aims at it, your surely dead if you stay in there right? Wrong, you pick up the box and ram that fucker to the ground! That's right with cardboard box on level 3 you can ram people endlessly, averaging at least 5 knockouts a game. Very useful skill.

i play on eu so i doubt i can join. anyway some general hints off the top of my head feel free to add/correct:

box:
immune to flash bangs, recovers stamina when stationary, quick ducking system, faster than crouching, head hidden + can run over porn mags. Its like I'd found the key to true happiness. You should come inside the box...

porn: can drop it if youre fast after throwing someone. dive into people stuck in porn or shoot it, quite obvious but not many people do it.

monomania: awesome, 1 slot at level 3, great for seeing if you got lucky with (damaging) traps or spamming nades or for firefights where people go behind cover.

auto-aim: sucks, headshots are faster at killing even with bad aim, dont ever use on teamstealth because of all the narc equipped people.

knocking someone out, putting c4 on them and then waiting for someone to come wake them up is fun.

shotgun: if they dont get lucky with headshots and you dont lag its great at close range. aim for mid to lower-mid section to knock down then run a few steps during reload and shoot them 1 more time to finish off, this lowers the chance of them getting lucky headshots on you. dont bother buying slugs for shotgun because someone will just turn up right next to you with an m4 and waste you while you get 1 shot off which doesnt knock them down.

you can stab people lying on the floor with crouch + first person.

the m14 is still worth buying if you use sniper rifles.

you can actually use six-axis to wake yourself up too, its a lot slower for me but theres no CLACKCLACKCLACK

usually i go quarterback, monomania, weapon skill + 6th sense or something

I tried using both anolog sticks to wake up faster like Warmachine said, but it didn't really seem to help at all. It just caused my camera to wiggle around. Anyway, I usually toggle the anolog in circles instead of back and forth like the prompt seems to suggest, and that works really well for me. So try spinning the left anolog stick in circles like other games have you do instead of shaking it back and forth, if you're not doing that already.

Thanks for the tips Tim, you sound pretty good. I'll have to use the box more, a lot of people have been praising its uses lately. I've also found that you can roll over porn mags, not sure if that's been mentioned. As for skills, I like sixth sense, assault rifles, CQC, and blades, among others. If you haven't gotten the gene expansion yet, I recommend it. I especially like the new stages, they're really cool.

Tim you do seem like you know alot, but going over a porn mag in a box doesn't work. The box will just dissapear and your character will proceed to drool over it.

@ The prince: Your just flame baiting I doubt you even have a ps3. I'd kill you in mgo so gtfo.
Also I'm going to go ahead and rename the clan to Neo OuterHeaven today the wait should be over.

Why so serious...........?

Anyway.....

Go ahead and hide in your little box. Stay there like a good little boy and I promise not to waste you.

LOL.....at Fuji's super-secret special "boxing" technique. I can just imagine seeing Fuji in a box, for hours and hours waiting/hoping for the oppurtunity for some clueless chap to stand next to his box (not noticing the box), so at the oppurtune moment he can pop-up and commence hitting his opponents head with a box.

Just one question (even though I don't play MGS at all), just wondering if the name is going to be changed to correct its spelling, or is it going to be Neo OuterHeavon? I actually think Heavon is OK, despite the spelling mistake. I'll change the thread name if it's fixed up if War Machine can't do it.

Maybe I'm imagining it, but try waking up with only the right stick, if the stamina bar does go up, then it's working.

Oh, and here's a neat little trick, If you're low on stamina, have one of your teammates drop a magazine and you fall into the trap. While your characters is stuck watching it, wiggle the stick as if you were trying to wake up and you stamina bar will recover.

Wow, are you serious? I'll give it a try. ;)

Also, we renamed the clan. It wouldn't accept the word "heaven", for some reason. :? So we named it Neo OuterHaven instead.

About the previous stamina recovering tip, you don't need to move the stick, your stamina recovers by itself while you watch the magazine.

Picture time! (hidden in spoiler tags to reduce loading time)

Yeah, I think its bound to the localisation of the copy you bought, e.g. you got a EU copy and go to US youll be playing on the EU network and vice versa. you take screenshots by equipping the camera, its on item menu, and you can copy them onto a flash drive or whatever and put them on pc (or you can get a tv with capture card).

i wouldnt say i was actually good since i have harsh standards and a beginner to fps on console with no usb keyboard/mouse.

as for box vs porn ive definitely read its possible and ran past one in a box. This was a bit before the expansion stuff, so whether its been patched out or it was just a coincidence since the mags dont seem to get people 100% of the time

edit: ive actually ran past tonnes of magazines (friendly) in box recently and its always worked

well i started when it came out and picked up the maps and cheesy stuff pretty quick so it wasnt that bad apart from the COD4 addicts instantly headshotting you with an M4 from across the map.

starting to play now will obviously be harder since there arent as many fellow noobs around. once you get a feel of how to aim with weapons, where its safe to stand and where to throw your grenades you will start doing ok though.

i actually learned something new the other day too, when you get to the top of a ladder - like before you climb up over the edge, you can press left/right to shimmy along the edge of the roof to avoid magazines/snipers/surprise people.

I was wondering about the skills that have the + next to their name. They take more space as you level them up, so is there a way to choose a lower level skill once you've leveled them? And for voice chat, do you just hold down select and then everyone can hear you?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can pick the lower levels of the skills after you've leveled them up, but I'm not exactly sure. I think you'll be able to equip it at level one if you only have one space left available or something like that. As for the voice chat, you hold down select for a moment and then your mic should come on and stay on after that, until you turn it back off with the select button again. Be sure to go into your in-game settings and turn up your mic sensitivity, otherwise it can be really hard for other people to hear you sometimes. ;)

Hey I haven't been able to be to active on mgo lately, so I don't think I'm the best candidate for the job anymore. Is anyone here interested in becoming the leader for now on?

Well I've only been playing a little here and there, but you can make the leader if you want. I don't plan on giving up on the game anytime soon. It's all good though man, you can stay the leader. You don't have to play all the time to be the leader, IMO.

It's not just that man, the best player has to be the leader IMO. It would make the clan look bad if it wasn't, but anyway Starnum, you have the Gene expansion, I need a team for survival and I want you to be in it. What do you say man?

Ah, well I got leveled back down to 3, so it can still be you. I think it should be someone who posts on EG at least. Otherwise the best man is free to step up. Yeah, I'll be on your team. I have to warn you though, my punctuality sucks... I'll help as much as I can though. ;)
