An email I received this morning...

Post by Eldo »

I usually avoid and delete emails like these, but since it was sent to my scanlation email, I thought it may have been some sort of recruit. Oh, how wrong I am. This guy emailed me via his hotmail account (I decided to remove the email address though):
Dear Friend,
I know that this mail will come to you as a surprise.Iam the bill and
exchange manager in Bank of Africa.I Hoped that you will not expose or
betray this trust and confident that i am about to repose on you for the
mutual benefit of our both families.
We need your urgent assistance in transferring the sum of $11.3million
immediately to your account. The money has been dormant for years in our Bank
here without any body coming for it.
We want to release the money to you as the nearest person to our deceased
customer(the owner of the account)who died a long with his supposed next of
kin in an air crash since July 2000.
We don't want the money to go into our Bank treasury as an abandoned fund.So
this is the reason why i contacted you,so that we will can release the money
to you as the nearest person to the deceased cutomer.
Please we would like you to keep this proposal as a top secret and delete if
you are not interested.
Upon receipt of your reply,i will send you full details on how the business
will be executed and also note that you will have 25% of the above mentioned
sum if you agree to transact the business with us.

I just want to know: where does the Nigerian princess come in?

Let's see: the nearest person to their deceased customer? Yeah, I dug a lot of graves in my time, so they got me on that one.

And also, 25% of fictional $11.3 million bucks is an amazing amount of 0 real life dollars. That's about the same salary I get for not working.

BTW...I believe the message is legit, so if you don't want to give them your account number, here is my ex's.

What's so strange about this e-mail is that the bank is actually worried that the money might stay there unclaimed, which is something that not even reputable banks do.

I've gotten several of those on the e-mail I use to answer to my guide on gamefaqs. Although I use that e-mail whenever I think the site I'm using it in might send spam, so that's probably the reason why I get messages from Burkina Faso.

There's actually people who have fun with playing around and catching these guys, civilians who out them by tricking them, or online detectives. The result of it all are pretty hilarious.

The scammers(who are run and funded by real crime organisations, can you believe the russian mob starts stuff like this in africa, haha) are allways retarded, but they atleast TRY, this one doesnt seem to at all. Ameteur...

I hear that some of them look way authentic. They even use the bank header images in emails and all that jazz, so I guess you have individuals at all ends of the intelligence spectrum who email scam poor saps.

I heard of a much better email scam recently. Some Japanese guy sent out a bunch of email to random women, saying he had naked photos of them and would put them on the internet unless... they sent him naked photos of themselves. And apparently a number of them did before he got picked up by police. I'll post a link to the story if i can find it again...

That's retarded. Why would he need naked photos of you, if he already has some. Only a moron would fall for that.

He probably saw that in an hentai and thought to give it a go. Because the best place to base a real life scam is a japanese porn comic.

Don't do it....all you get is a THANK YOU pop-up, and are redirected to a site asking you to refine your search.

And despite refining my search, I can't get back to that THANK YOU page for the life of me.....???????
