Way to derail the discussion Psi. You're on a list somewhere -- and when you vanish in the middle of the night and wake up on a plane to an undisclosed prisoner rendition center --- I get your salary, monitor, and home PC.

To put things back on track -- we're supposed to be upset that we're giving these countries money and they don't vote with us? I understand the idea that a person you've bribed is supposed to stay bribed... but are we really willing to admit that US foreign aid is buying votes at the UN?

Do we really want to turn UN votes into a bidding war? China will love that game.

Just because a country disagrees with us on many issues doesn't mean they can't be an ally. Take Pakistan for example. They have been huge help in fighting Al Qaeda:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar ... 4Aug5.html
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/asiapcf/0 ... an.arrest/

Wouldn't you consider our alliance with them a good thing? Do you think it's wise to ruin that alliance just because they tend to disagree with us?

Not only that, but do you know what they are disagreeing with us about? For all you know, you may have agreed with Pakistan on most of their votes against us. Those statistics don't hold any weight.

EDIT - This was in response to the original post

American oil companies get very lucrative contracts for that foreign aid money. Unfortunately it's only them that also get rich on it, too (and certain friends in the government).
