AN EXTRAORDINARY "hyperspace" engine that could make interstellar space travel a reality by flying into other dimensions is being investigated by the United States government.
The hypothetical device, which has been outlined in principle but is based on a controversial theory about the fabric of the universe, could potentially allow a spacecraft to travel to Mars in three hours and journey to a star 11 light years away in just 80 days, according to a report in today's New Scientist magazine.
It's dodgy physics - but there's a LOT of stuff we don't understand in the universe. Government interest in this may indicate some level of possibility.
Strange, the math says that even at it's farthest, the velocity to travel to Mars is ~0.11c while to the star it's ~50c. So, the Mars one I can understand, but damn is that fast when travelling to the star.
If I buy Terminus for a dime (which I can, supposing you can buy a Trantorian continent without indebting yourself to an extreme degree), then who's going to be laughing in 20,500 years?!
It'll be me, laughing all the way to the Foundation Bank, which happens to be one of my tenants*.

So, is that a prediction that in ~2100 years, Trantor land prices will skyrocket?
if this theory turns out to be true, i really hope they are considering the side affects that might occur in the surrounding space. it could have devastating consequences if activated close to Earth or another planet.
