Jack Abramoff, long the high powered lobbyist in Washington's halls of power, has admitted to various federal crimes and has offered to turn on his former benefactors for a lighter sentence.
The investigative crosshairs rest upon much of the Republican power base in the House - which swept Democrats out of power in the famous Republican Revolution of the 1990s by pledging to eliminate the very kind of corruption now under investigation.
While some Democrats will doubtless end up in hot water over this - the overwhelming majority of the fallout will find its way back to the beleaguered GOP, already drowning in scandal from Bush's NSA wiretaps, the infamous Jeff Gannon incident, DeLay’s indictments on totally unrelated charges, and Frist's insider trading problems.
For a party obsessed with morality, it sure seems to have a lot of criminals in it.
