femto, the RRoD happens to the best of us...

the sad part for me is that the 360 that was bought from launch with the faulty disc drive (i have to hit the top of my xbox to have it open up, seriously it is more of challenge to open up my disc drive than to actually pla any games on it) and the ability to play burnt dl-dvds still works. The 360 elite that is my roommates had been replaced TWICE. First time he got it, came back with it RRoD before he can even run a game. Was within the 7 day period so BestBuy gave him a new one. The second time it happened was after playing some serious 4 player Marvel Alliance, ejected the disc, then WHAP! RRoD. He sent it to MS and they "fixed it," it works now, but yahhh them elites have problems.

just to note, I've never had to exchange or replace a console before. Psone, was a 4th generation, PS2 was a first generation launch (STILL WORKS!!!), Gameboy color (yes it is a purple see through color), PSP launch (no dead pixels for me!), my PS3 has been working flawlessly and my sega genesis 16 bit can still play games.

I've also never had to replace any console, handheld or just plain old electronic device in my lifetime.

Microsoft broke the streak.

Sucks about the Elite though, I thought they were more reliable than the regular models.

It really is a shoddily built piece of hardware.

It reminds me a lot of the Disc Read Error a lot of PS2s had. In my case, it happened once within the warranty period so I returned the PS2 at the store, then the DRE happened again some months later at about the time GTA:Vice City came out; since I didn't have the warranty I repaired it myself, but the fix doesn't last long because the problem is the PS2's weak laser. After a while of working sometimes and attempting to repair it I found out that Sony was repairing PS2's with DRE for free because they got sued, so I sent it in and it came back a week later finally working.

It really bugs me that they find out there's an inherent problem with their console and decide it's cheaper to offer free repair than fixing the console before selling it.

What was there to be annoyed about? They did both. Now, if they had ONLY fixed their future consoles but NOT offered you free repair, then that would be something to be annoyed about.

That came out weird, I was in a hurry and didn't finish up that thought, let me rephrase that: It bugs me that they still sell them when they're defective from the product line and they go the easy way out of offering repair knowing that most people won't even know about it instead of making it public and replacing the defective consoles as they should. But you're right, as far as my problem goes, I have no gripes anymore.

I refuse to buy any hardware that has a Microsoft logo on it. Even if there was no other console on the market. It's a matter of principle.

I said the exact same thing to a friend who was asking me about the Xbox 360. It's a matter of principle.

General hate on anything from Microsoft. In all fairness though, the 360 isn't that bad, but I would never be caught dead paying for a Microsoft product.

You guys are idiots and have moronic reasons for not playing 360 games.

I despise EA but I bought The Orange Box (an EA-published title) on day one.

And if Paul Anderson by some strange twist of fate ends up making a Lord of The Rings-caliber movie, you bet your ass I'll pay money to see it.

A lot of you guys are shallow, close-minded fucks.

I have enjoyed several games, but they haven't been "Lord of The Rings-caliber". The few really good ones I've seen are either on PC which I can play on my computer (Bioshock for example) or PS3 which I will get soon (-ish).

Besides, I was referring to the console, not the games, you dumbass.

Gears of War 2 exclusive for Game Informer

Post by The Prince »

Probably the most impressive visuals for a next gen game I have seen. Looks like the game involves actually going underground to infiltrate the Hive.

I second that but with a note: The games on the 360 aren't bad. The hardware itself crap. Well actually that's insulting to crap, because crap usually still is better than the 360 hardware. And I'm not talking about system specs here. General manufactoring issues. RROD of course. The harddrive issue. The overheating issue. The disc-scratching issue. The fan which sounds like shit hits it all the time. I mean seriously, that thing is fucking louder than my 6 year old PC which I haven't cleaned one time, and the fan from that PC is obnoxiously loud.

And I'm not just talking smack: I rented a 360 with Blue Dragon (meh) and Lost Odyssey (double meh) for a weekend. The box is huge and loud like hell. If I wanted a fan I would buy one that is cooling the room, not heating it.

And besides Mass Effect there hasn't been a single game that made me jealously looking over to the 360 guys. And come summer that game is gonna be available to PC anyway. Because that's the whole point: The 360 is nothing else than a fancy (Windows-like) PC.

Actually, I wanted to know WHY you hate Microsoft enough to not buy anything with their logo on it. Problems with Windows OS instability? Ridiculous software prices?

Ok, I'm good with computers, and even though I've owned a Mac for the past 8 years, I still handle Windows on a regular basis. Mainly family members and friends asking for help. So I deal with Windows' shitty software all the time and have to fix bugs that happen on simple tasks that go haywire. Granted, for the most part, those problems come from people who click on every pop-up they see, but even I've had my fair share of problems with Windows in spite of the fact that I take good care of it by using the web carefully and keeping anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall software updated. But aside of the bugs and errors I get, what I hate most about Windows is how badly designed it is; a friend of mine who's good with computers and has Vista was asking me how to activate the options for foreign language characters, so when he couldn't find out (cause I haven't used Vista that much) he had to search for a guide on google to tell him how to do it. It really pisses me off that something as simple as this required a fucking guide to do. On my Mac, all I did was open system preferences>International, and there they were, all the options for foreign languages and I found them in seconds the first time I looked for them.

They seem to thrive from releasing products as soon as they compile without even worrying if it actually works. I've used most Windows versions from 95 to Vista, and I can't believe some of the programs like Paint haven't been updated in the slightest. Really, Microsoft? You can't improve on Paint?

I could go on, but I'll leave it at this: Microsoft makes shitty products, therefor, I'm not buying anything from them.

Going back on topic, I love this picture:

I haven't had a problem with a Microsoft OS since Win98 SE. I've only been using Vista for a month and have never installed foreign languages before either, but I found it in about 10 seconds (Control Panel->Regional and Language Settings->Keyboards and Languages->Install/Uninstall Languages). Also, paint isn't a core operating system feature. It's not meant to be a feature rich photo editing program, it's simply a bare bones image editing program put there for your convenience.

I can understand that you don't like Microsoft, but I think you are hating them for the wrong reasons. I don't like the fact that they pretty much have a monopoly over the market and can charge such ridiculous prices for their software. I don't like the implications of the various content "protection" schemes that they are implementing into their OS, as many people believe these are infringing on the rights of the honest users (especially independent developers who may have to pay Microsoft fees to verify their software and allow it to run on future Windows operating systems). Anyone who has a problem with OS instability these days, though, either needs to update their drivers or simply isn't taking enough care of their system. Stop browsing dodgy porn and warez sites already! ;)

In any case, do yourself a favour and don't deny yourself such awesome games because of something so petty. You might actually enjoy yourself.
