House Majority Leader Tom Delay has been indicted on two counts of Campaign Finance Fraud, forcing him to relinquish his leadership position in the House of Representatives.
DeLay will remain in the Congress until/unless he is convicted of the charges.
This couldn't come at a worse time for the Republican Party. Bush's popularity is in the low 40s (percent), Katrina and Rita have demonstrated the utter incompetence of the administration and it's much vaunted Department of Homeland Security, and the war in Iraq has taken a turn for the worse these last few months - with casualties nearing 2,000 Americans and untold thousands of Iraqis.
