Didnt the Church that Farneze used to belong to believe that the white hawk was there savior. Well maybe Azan still believs that and is following and/or looking for grifith, who everyone believes is the white hawk..

Didn't they mention that Azan joined the Knights of the Holy Iron Chains as more of matter of serving as a knight, rather than because of religious reasons? (Come to think of it, did anyone join the Knights for religious reasons? Possibly Farneze?) I'll try to find the page.
well if all he cares about is being a knight. Maybe he joined the Hawks purley for that purpose. I mean dont locus and Grunbeld consider themselves kniights

My only fear is that he has returned simply to be killed off trying to defend the town. (Assuming that's what the vision meant...Which brings up the question of who is attacking the town and for what purpose etc.)

Hmmm, thats an interesting question. I have this nagging feeling that I missed something important that hints to why he's there.
However, it seems to me him comming to take Farneze back may be the best possible explantion for now. I also wonder why this event was put into the story now... is it becuase there is something major to come from this? Or is it simply to make the readers want for Gatts to get to Elfhelm all that much greater.

I don't know, if I recall, Farnese already told Azan she'll follow the Black Swordsman. So there's really no need for Azan to 'rescue her'.
Maybe he came to arrest farneze for heresy or sideing with the enemy
Have to disagree with that. Azan would have probably brought a whole army with him. And he wouldn't be starving and sleeping on the streets, he would have going around using taxpayer's money.
Azan's probably just a side story that will eventually join in the main scenario in the next 5 chapters. The fact that a skilled fighter is reintroduced means that Muira is expecting something GREAT....probably a massive battle or something...
