Lets nuke some ETs.

Perhaps it isn't news and just the ravings of a mad-man. However, you never know.

Mr. Hellyer went on to say, "I'm so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something."

Hellyer revealed, "The secrecy involved in all matters pertaining to the Roswell incident was unparalled. The classification was, from the outset, above top secret, so the vast majority of U.S. officials and politicians, let alone a mere allied minister of defence, were never in-the-loop."

Hellyer warned, "The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. He stated, "The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."

Hellyer’s speech ended with a standing ovation. He said, "The time has come to lift the veil of secrecy, and let the truth emerge, so there can be a real and informed debate, about one of the most important problems facing our planet today."

So I keep seeing the Hellyer quotes and I have to say something, so this is directed at him, not that he will ever see it

Boy, I can think of some way better reasons to have a base on the moon... "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" anyone?
I mean I guess its always possible that someone like that has a point, heck just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you. But a lot of Hellyer's speech doesn't even really make any sense. I mean its always possible that we are planning to go to war with little green men, or bunny rabbits with fangs, but as of yet its not really feasible. Any race that has the technology to successfully wage war across even small sections of the galaxy is way ahead of us. Heck we have problems finding things in lousy couple of cubic miles of water. Even if you were waging war in just the solar system then within one mile of the elliptical plane between here and the sun,
so a disk two miles tall and 1 AU in radius(in miles)
92 955 887.6 * 92 955 887.6 * 3.14159 * 2 = 5.42916831 × 10^16 cubic miles approximately(and this is a really small fraction of the amount of space to hide in throughout the whole solar system)

And the Volume of earth is about
3 959 * 3 959 * 3 959 * (4 / 3) * 3.14159 = 2.59923022 × 10^11 cubic miles approximately(neither earth nor the earth's orbit are perfectly circular) There are five orders of magnitude difference there...and we don't even have to search most of the earth's volume, ask Killfile how effective a sub can be at hiding and its got something like 3.28 x 10^8 cubic miles to hide in.

Beyond that, we don't even have truly effective ways to get to the other planets in the solar system yet. Sure we could send people to several of them, but it would be a really long trip, there was a mission to mars that was supposed to launch in like 2004 but I think it got canceled in 2000 or somewhere there abouts...even if it had gone through as originally planned it would have been an 8 year round trip, not counting the time spent on the planet itself. So as much as I want to meet little green men and AI's and carnivorous bunny rabbits, I think Hellyer is smoking something that he should be sharing. :D
