You've all probably heard about this already, but Home, that'll basically be coming out in november, is actually region locked. Yep, just like mgo. So this means that your friends from Europe and North America won't be able to come to your poRn party that you'll have on it's release. This is already sounding like pure suckatude, I've a reason to wait now.

FUCK REGION LOCKING. Everywhere.

It's the same with MMOs. Why can't I play Age of Conan or everything else with buddies from the US? If I am able to play and have fun with a sucky ping, why shouldn't I be allowed to?

From what I've heard, you can still play with people from other regions, just not in some public areas.

By the way, take a look at a cool glitch that happened to me in GTAIV:

Heh, nice. I wouldn't call it a glitch, but I've had some funny stuff happen to me on GTAIV. For one, I was ramping motorcycles off a sky scrapper one day, just for kicks. I was doing stuff like trying to land in the water, and just get funny bails and stuff. Well one time my friend managed to do a couple of flips off the building, and he had the motorcycle helmet on. I think it saved his life cuz he landed on his head and survived somehow! How in the hell can you live from that? It was like a 30-story drop. He didn't hit the water either, he landed in the street. It was funny as hell when he stood back up with a hair's fraction of life left. Another time I wrecked on a bike going like 80, and I freaking flew man. I went so damn high, I landed on top of a building that was like 4 stories tall, heh.

What do you mean it's not a glitch? People aren't supposed to float in the air.

Now that I think of it, maybe it happened cause I was in an underwater tunnel and for some reason the ragdoll thought it was floating on water.

Heh, I thought you might confuse that. I wasn't talking about your glitch, I was talking about what happened to me. You did read my entire post, right?

Little Big Planet will be made of sooo much fluffy win, I can't wait for it to come out already:

SackZilla Trailer is awesome:
http://littlebigplanet.us.playstation.c ... ailer.aspx

Just imagine that every player will be able to make such awesome levels and even videos. I'd say slashdot is right, this could very well become the (next?) killer app for the PS3. MGS4 is awesome yes, but I recon I will play LBP (of course, if it is as good as all the trailers make it) even years from now, because there will always be something new to create or explore.

Edit: What the flying fuck. I loathe regions!

It's some weird phrasing you got there. I thought it was "I wouldn't call it a glitch", and then "but I've had some funny stuff happen to me". But it was my mistake, it's cool.

Get with the times, LBP is region free:

Hmm ive not heard anything special about ps3 failure rates unless this is a very recent thing. The ps3 obviously isnt indestructable or infallible, i think the death rate is about 3% at the most. You seem to have won the anti-lottery, its the discs fault, or your friend has been playing while smoking some heavy cigars by it in high humidity.

I hope you still have warranty, especially if it was a backwards compatible model :(

Yeah like tim said if it was backwards compatible, it was possibly your friends fault. If it was the non - backwards compatible one then it's possible that the thing just fucked itself up. The 40 gig was built cheap and all of them fuck up it doesn't matter if your fucking god himself.

well currently the error that is happening (this is what my friend told me) is that they tried to play madden 09 and then my ps3 gave a "disc read error" screen. I've never heard of that problem before. Now the really crappy part... inever got my ps3 from a store. Another one of my friends was moving back home and is brother had a 60 gig, so he had no reason to keep his 40gig and alas sold it to me for $350 for Uncharted. Now i think the receipt is still in the box, im not totally sure, but im in close contacts with the guy, so i can still hopefully get records from him. (i got this ps3 back in november, and i've never had problems with it). Eitherway the way i look at it, i got the ps3 for 300 bucks and Uncharted for 50, so im fine if i have to pay for it to be serviced.

my ps3 can get to the XMB but currently it cant play anything.

I'd prolly cry if my PS3 broke like that. Thankfully I have a fully backwards compatible 60 gig system.

Woot. I got a 60 gig too and I'm glad as hell. I hope mine lasts untill the ps4 comes out. I've used mine for pretty much everything... music, internet, video(from USB as well as dvd/bluray and streaming), games (ps1 and ps2).

Just downloaded the demos of 'The Last Guy' and PixelJunk Eden.
I don't get Eden. The gameplay doesn't appeal to me.

The Last Guy is awesome. Will buy it next paycheck.

Also my ps3 runs quite hot. Have it standing vertical on a TV stand not surrounded by anything. Should I get a contraption to cool it?

Yeah, I got the same feel from PixelJunk Eden. The music was cool and it looked pretty nice, but the simple platformer gameplay was very unappealing. I also tried The Las Guy, but I can't play it on my TV, everything is way too small because it has too shrink the screen to accommodate for the widescreen, so everything ends up a little bit smaller. I'm just not gonna enjoy that game unless I sit on a chair a meter away from the TV.

About your PS3 heating up, make sure it's not getting more heat from somewhere else, for example, if it's on top of the TV, it might be getting some of the heat from the TV. Just make sure that cool air circulates well around it.

oh yeah totally slipped my mind... you try a firmware reset.

what i think you do is: put it on standby then hold the power button for 10+ seconds.

that might fix it, not sure exactly what it does since ive never tried it myself i just heard about it a while back

That command actually only resets the audio and video settings to default, so you can change from HDMI to SCART and back and stuff. Probably won't help with disc read errors :D

hmm i think i read about the reset as a fix for a crash or something that cod caused. I did have to google the details before i posted them though and used some site where someone was complaining abot HDMI cable not working, as you said. There may be another reset form (im looking and will edit this if i find anything).

On another note my PC bricked today (PSU i think), so im posting from my ps3 :P

has anyone replaced their HDD yet? im going to order one when i get a new PSU, and was wodering what happens to stuff that i bought from PSN and downloaded/installed on this PS3.

once you got you new HDD in just go to the download history and redownload everything, no need to buy again. However you can only do this 5 times. When upgrading to a new HDD make sure you backup your save files and such.

I wonder if formatting your HDD would fix the disc read error. Probably not, but it's an idea. I really have no idea, heh. *shrugs*

Ok I'll give you some info that I've been holding back. It was 40 gig model correct? Well the 40's were made more poorly than the 80's, as you all know, but Sony left out a key ingredient known as formula x making it shitty and therefore not worth the money. You should just take it back to the store, get your money, and fork over an extra hundred for the 80 gig. The 40 gig is literally a piece of shit. :D
