I guess I'm unemployed now.
Country's all fucked up.
I'll be collecting unemployment and I'll use the ridiculous amount of extra time I'll have to draw a comic in hopes of getting it published.
A blessing in disguise perhaps?
I'll let you guys know!

Where did you work? Hearing all this shit happening to you guys south of the border, I'm not quite sure what to expect when I go to Seattle. I can tell you the only thing here in Canada we're experiencing from this is we're getting MORE government jobs and things like high end dry cleaners are losing money.

I guess good luck with that.

Over here in Ontario there's a good bit of preparation for recession. Not to mention we have a few larger car/truck plants over here which were part of the bailout. The Herald wrote:Where did you work? The company I work for closed two of our 22 branches, and are forcing all employees to take one day off unpayed to save the company money. Pair that with wage freezes and them cutting our Christmas party, and it's been a hell of a time there for the last 6 months.
Hopefully without jinxing it, I think my job's relatively safe because I get payed so little, and our branch is actually still performing on track to our budget while company wide we're $700,000 short on the month with 3 business days left.
Sorry to hear about your downsizing/layoff though Femto. What exactly did you do, and what kind of percentage will you be looking at in regards to unemployment?

Re: I guess I'm unemployed now.
I just worked in maintenance for an apartment building. It was a shitty, mediocre job but it was very comfortable money and environment-wise and gave me, I thought, a modicum of stability. I was part of a union with health benefits and all that jazz but, unfortunately, it's the union itself that got me laid off. When a building decides to cut down on staff, by union rules, it's the last person that got hired that gets thrown on the street and that just so happened to be me.
It's a broken system that rewards seniority over hard work but hey, life is rarely fair. My boss even told me that were at least six or seven guys he would've gotten rid of before me.
I'm not sure how much I'm getting from unemployment yet. I just applied for it a couple days ago. It's supposed to be 3/4 from your regular pay up to a maximum of $400-something a week for six months with a 3 month extension if eligible. It'll keep me aloft but my savings will probably take a beating. But that's why they're there in the first place, I suppose.
Like I said though, maybe it's a good thing and the situation will force me to reassess where I stand and it'll let me focus on my artwork.
Good times.

Do you got a story in mind? Or is it just gonna be a cool artwork-told-story thing.

Re: I guess I'm unemployed now.
I have a few of ideas in mind, a couple that I never finished in college and one that my roommate and myself have been very sporadically working on (he's unemployed too, haha).
I'm a big fan of shit blowing up so there'll be some of that for sure.
I'd submit to Image first and then work my way down the ladder.
Even if I have to self-publish it and make no money off it, I still need to get it out there.
Just having something published is a huge step for an aspiring artist in the comic book business.
Or so I'm told.

That sucks about the job, but I'm sure that with your artistic talents you'll get into the comic industry.
Trust me, I'm a doctor!

It would've been better if you'd said something like "you'll always have a job in my bed."LordMune wrote:Oh, Femto. You'll always be employed... in my heart.
Missed opportunities, Mune.

Fair enough.
I'd pay you to plug your dongle into my USB port, if you catch my drift.
EDIT: On paper, you'd be working in IT~

Re: I guess I'm unemployed now.
Being unemployed sucks.
It gets to a point where I'm so bored that I just go out and get wasted 3-4 times a week which, considering I'm unemployed, is not the most reasonable thing to do.
Blowing the government's money on booze is what it's come to.
At least I'm drawing a lot.
I've been building a website with a bunch of my stuff that I'll try to update with new shit whenever possible so at least I'm trying to be productive.
I guess I'm going to get wasted now.
*sigh*

I know this is extremely late, but sorry to hear about your unemployment Femto.
Your website looks great though. I will check it out from time to time for sure.
We still need to get that game of SF4 some day. You can beat down on my scrubby Cammy.

I kinda just stopped playing video games altogether.
We could make a video game date or something, I guess.
Let me know when you're on and I'll stop by.
