This chapter kicks ass.

Given the pattern Berserk fights often seem to take (Guts steps up, Guts looks badass, Guts kicks ass, something bigger shows up, Guts gets turned back into a bloody side of meat with his limbs facing the wrong way), I'm guessing that all the death-tentacles we see here are actually just appendages of a much larger creature beneath the surface.

Almost, except that thing didn't lay a tenacle on Guts. Besides that, I think we all kind of knew what was going to happen (Guts kicking ass), and suspected that of course the tentacles were attached to a Kraken-like monster.

Lately (in the latest re-reads, that is) I had been finding more and more flaws in the way Gutts's face was drawn. There was something off with the relation between his face and the rest of his head.

Miura has, once again, forcibly pushed my complaints down my throat even before they could leave my mouth.
Gutts's face has been corrected and is now officially the very epitome of manliness.
I am humbled.

Hes been using that technique since the fight with the guards to Misty Vally, iirc.

Guts used his cannon/sword swing combo again, it's been awhile since that.

While the fight scenes with Gut's drawing on the full power of his armor has been more epic each time the armor takes over, I still enjoy seeing Gut's just relying on his normal power and weapons to deal with the situation at hand. Before Gut's Beast armor, the fight scenes displayed more technique, wit, trick/ambush attacks, and desperation moves to deal with his enemies. I hope Miura can find situations where we can see more of these fights, rather than just making the fights even more gigantic and epic than the last in full Beast Armor mode (don't get me wrong, I love these too ).

Even better, most likely the Ghost Ship encounter won't drag on for another chapter (assuming a full frontal barrage of cannons did the ship in for good), hopefully Elfhelm is next!

It seems Berserk has similarities to Dragonball Z that are exemplified by this chapter: Guts is like a Saiyan where he is stronger after he heals from a brutal beating, and the other people watch and comment on the fight. Everything else though is pure Berserk awesomeness.

It's nice to see Guts back at full glory, if only a little sleepy, and to see Roderick kick some ass.

Was the joke at the beginning of the chapter intentional? Where it said 'took long enough' or something like that?

This was a great leway in the middle of this back breaking movie. Day 14 of 22 tomorrow, only half way done

Thats quite a generic comparison. Theres lots of anime/manga which characters who get stronger go fight stronger opponents and other people comment.

Now if Guts squatted down for 6-10 releases going "HHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRR" and looking constipated while his hair changed color then comparisons could be made.

Personally I think Guts has become weaker since accepting the armor. True, using it makes him stronger, but I mean physically its killing him so without it I doubt he could fight like he used to.
