Q: Where can I find interviews and biographies regarding Berserk and it's creator?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What's the chronological order of the story?

Berserk the manga actually begins directly after Gatts leaves Goto’s house as the Black Swordsman [it is implied in the Anime]. It then continues until he’s defeated The Count. At that point it jumps back to Guts's childhood, and then continues from there. When it reaches the afore mentioned part (Which was the first three volumes), it skips this section, since it had already been presented before. From there, it goes directly to the beginning of the Lost Children Arc. Thus, there is about a three-month gap later in the story, from when Gatts leaves as the black swordsman, and the Lost Children Arc begins. That was the first three volumes.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Where does the manga continue on after the anime?

The eclipse starts in the later half of volume 12, resuming and ends in volume 13. It is advisable that you read the manga from the very beginning, since a lot of material were omitted from the anime, including some spectacular fights, interesting and important facts, and also extra information that are absolutely pivotal to Berserk.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Will there ever be a second season to the Berserk anime?

As of now, there are no official reports of such a thing. Therefore one can only wonder and hope. However, the majority agrees that the chances are very slim.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How come my versus thread got locked?

In the case of versus threads involving characters that are not in Berserk, they get locked. Why you might ask. We’d like to at least try to keep the forum from degenerating into a mass of mindless banter. We feel that versus threads with characters external to Berserk will only bring down the quality of the forum. However, feel free to discuss hypothetical battles between characters within the series.

Q: What are the measurements of Gatts/The Dragon Slayer?

A: No official measurements have been given. However, after hours of deduction, we have concluded that they are big.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: What is the Lost Chapter?

This chapter was originally released in the magazine in which Berserk is serialized, “Young Animal”. However, Miura later had it removed from the tankoban release, and it has since been removed from the publications of Berserk. The exact reason why he did this is unknown, but some speculate that it is because he felt it revealed too much too soon. Some believe that maybe he felt it wrote him into a corner, and that maybe he wanted to go in a different direction instead. Whatever the case may be, you can't deny that the chapter is an interesting look into the possible future of Berserk.

(Volume 13: Chapter 3.5 – God of the Abyss II)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Can Guts use the behelit?

Whether or not it’s physically possible, has yet to be foreclosed, since it hasn’t happened. Yet, there is a chance that it’s possible, because there has been some teasing, involved with Slann. However, the answer is practically no. First of all, The Idea of Evil has already decreed that it wouldn’t happen. Gatts’ chosen role was to be a sacrifice. On top of that, Gatts himself has vowed to never use it to become an Apostle. There’s also the fact that by bearing the Brand of Sacrifice, that if he gets to close to the Maelstrom, he’ll be pulled into it. The only reason he even held on to the thing in the first place, was in hopes of being able to summon The God Hand, so that he might kill them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Are behelits alive?

By the definition of the word, then no, they’re not. However, they’re primary function is to act as a key to summon the God Hand and have certain qualities that make them seem to be living entities.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Who is Skull Knight?

A direct answer has yet to be revealed. However, all signs point to Gaiseric.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Now that Griffith has been reborn into the physical plane, is he only as strong as he was before the eclipse.

No, Griffith is still The Overlord of the God Hand. He’s renown as one of the most powerful characters in the plot.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is Griffith now evil?

Well, he is the chosen one of the Idea of Evil after all. There’s a good chance that he’s lost any real good alignment he ever had. However, the choice has been left up to him. So until we actually see what he does, one can only speculate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is Griffith Gay?

What can ya say, he’s just very determined. He explains that he only slept with Gennon for the money. He states that if he fights for the money, he’ll loose too many men. It was a sacrifice Griffith was willing to make for his dream, and we all know he’ll sacrifice anything for his dream. He did sleep with Charlotte and raped Casca, which would lead one to believe he likes women.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Is Griffith the King of Midland?

In the anime it is stated that Griffith is king. However, that is not the case in the manga. That is a difference that only occurs in the anime. Griffith does indeed plan on becoming the king of Midland, but so far that has yet to happen in the manga.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How old is Gatts?

Gatts is born beneath a tree bearing the rotting corpse of his mother.
3: Gatts watches his adopted mother, Shizu, die from a horrible disease.
6: Gatts begins to train and receives the scar on his nose from Gambino.
9: Gatts kills his first man in the heat of battle.
11: Gatts kills Gambino and flees for his life.
15: Gatts joins The Band of the Hawk
18: The Band of the Hawk is officially recognized and Integrated into the Midland army.

(These time frames are all specifically given in the manga)

19: The Eclipse takes place. After the Battle of Doldrey, Gatts left The Hawks. Casca specifically says that he’s been gone for a year, once he returns shortly before The Eclipse.
21: Gatts returns to Goto’s to find that Casca is missing. This two-year period spans from the first time that Gatts leaves Goto’s as the Black Swordsman (in which the first three volumes take place), and then doesn’t return until after the fight with Roshinu. Upon his return, Rickert specifically says that’ he’s been gone for two years.

Now, if you add up the unspecified time between when The Hawks first became a part of the military till Gatts left them, and everything else that’s happened since Gatts set out to save Casca from Mozgus, it’s possible that Gatts may be 22. However, we know for sure that he’s at least 21, and no older than 22, so either could be correct.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Who is the father of Casca's child?

It is implied by Skull Knight, that the child's father is Gatts. Unfortunately the little tike was tainted by Griffith's vile semen. As to whether or not the child has chosen a life of evil, has yet to be seen. The only behaviors it has acted upon thus far, is love for its parents. At this point, I would not call the child evil.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Who was the child on the beach?

The child's identity has yet to be revealed. However, with the hints that have been given, it is logical to infer that it is in fact the child of Gatts and Casca. Yet, this has yet to be proven. If that is the case, then that opens up the question of how such a thing is even possible. For now, only time will tell.

Since some of these names are spelled oddly, here are more acceptable forms of some of the names that are off.

Beherit = Behelit
Teresia = Theresia
Ubik = Ubrik
Boscone = Boscogne (It's French)
Pikaf = Pirkaf
Evarella = Ivalera
Good information, for the most part. But the original names are accurate. Here's the justification:

Beherit is correct because it's the Syriac word for Satan. Behelit doesn't mean anything ...

Teresia and Theresia are phonetically the same...

Boscone and Boscogne are also phonetically the same...

There is no R in the katakana reading of Ubik.

There is no R in the katakana reading of Pikaf.

Simple L/R switch. The way to solve these riddles is to go by the more commonly used name in real life. And Evarella is a more common name than Ivalera.

This has been discussed a lot before, but here's my take on it:
Kambei_Shimada wrote:Beherit is correct because it's the Syriac word for Satan. Behelit doesn't mean anything ...
The fact that the word "behelit" doesn't mean anything doesn't mean the spelling of the word is incorrect. Behelits in the manga has little to do with Satan anyway.
Kambei_Shimada wrote:Teresia and Theresia are phonetically the same...

Boscone and Boscogne are also phonetically the same...
This goes both ways and is not enough reason to justify one over the other.

Someone else can handle the other two as I have little knowledge of the japanese language. Still, aside from consistency between releases, it's all kinda pointless really.

The problem is that DarkHorse has the blessings of Miura on the spellings. So do we go with the spellings of the amateur translator (no offense, that is what we do after all), or the professional with the blessing of the creator.

One may argue that this isn't simply the romanization of kana characters, but attempting to reverse-engineer it to something close to what it was before it got kananized. I admit Ubrik being a bit off, but I can easily see "Pikaf" originally being pronounced "Pirkaf".

Theresia is more common than Teresia. I imagine Boscogne being more common than Boscone, too. Why keep contradicting points in the same post?

Well, both are associated with "Hell". Anyway, my real point is that if something in real life exists, I side with it, as its likely Miura's intention, over something completely fabricated.
LordMune wrote: I admit Ubrik being a bit off, but I can easily see "Pikaf" originally being pronounced "Pirkaf".
I don't see why Pirkaf is more believeable, but I agree with Psi, these are just amateur translations all around.

Yeah, I guess my logic was a little paradoxical =). I just didn't see the need to add a silent H to Theresia. As for popularity of names, a google search indeed does present more evidence of Teresia than Theresia, however, Boscone is more popular than Boscogne.

It's wonders what google can find. Someone (can't remember who) searched ninjas on google images and got a picture of Lacus cosplay. Interesting.

Anyway, I don't think this thread is particularly the appropriate place for discussion, so feel free to direct it to http://www.evil-genius.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=123 or ignore me completely. The latter option is what most people tend to do, but anyway...

Most of those names, like Ivalera, are the official spellings. If you don't like it, take it up with Miura and Dark Horse...now shut up about it.

I know this was posted months ago, but I just want to make the correction. Katakana is an alphabet used by the Japanese to spell out American words. When text is translated from Hirigana/Kakana to the English alphabet, it is called roomaji. I don't know if this subject was brought up before, I didn't feel like reading through so many pages. I also don't want to sound like a know it all. I just wanted to make sure for other people to understand the difference.

MMmmmm.... more stuff from the skullknight.net
http://www.skullknight.net/spec/skully/skully.htm

I found this while going through google.

Has some pretty good arguements.
We truly dont know a whole lot about this character called Skull Knight. If you want to be a critic, we dont even know his real name, as he is never referred to by any other name than Skulled Horseman. But this is the speculations page, and i am allowed to add things that we have seen through the cracks, and can come up with very plausible origins for this mystery of a character.

1000 Years ago, there was a man named Gaiseric who fought many wars for one dream: to unite the world under an empire. Gaiseric was known for his vicious and fierce battle tactics, and more importantly, the Skull Helmet that he wore in battle. and finally he did. Gaiseric united half the world under the name of the Midland Empire. 1000 years ago, from what we know, things were much like Roman times, the architecture, the clothing, so consider Gaiseric's rule, a golden age perhaps, a Roman empire.
It goes on, gives examples... pictures, very well done.

3) The third theory is the most recently discovered one. This one was brought on again by mister Olivier Hague in a recent converstation.

-1000 years ago, Gaiseric incarnates himself.( which is assuming that Gaiseric was at one time, a God Hand ) Now that he is of the flesh, he is so powerful that he succeeds in putting all wars to an end and becomes King of a united territory, Midland. He's now known as "Gaiseric the Conqueror".

134 years later,

-866 A Wiseman imprisoned by Gaiseric uses the Crimson Beherit and becomes a God Hand. The four Other God Hands appear and he sacrifices Midland, Gaiseric's town. Gaiseric tries to fight back, and that makes him look like a fifth angel. He kills the God Hands, expect for Void, the new one.
I like this theory a bit.

New theory - Skull Knight is not Gaiseric! Gaiseric was Void and Skull Night to Void was someone like Guts to Griffith! Thinking logically, hasn’t Flora said that Guts and Skull Knight are following the same path?! Plus the parallels Berserk are too important to discard them: Guts hates Femto (aka Griffith) and SK hates Void. Both of them uses Berserkers amour (Guts now and SK before him). SK had Flora, Guts has Shierke. Plus Flora seamed like totally good character - can you imagine her collaborating with one of the God Hands?
