I guess they didn't have any choice. It tooks 6 years for the manga to get where it is right now. They couldn't put the anime on hold for so long to make a new season and the berserk exemple is too much frustrating. It's probably the fate that awaits slow pace un-finished manga when they get animate...

Aproximatly we have 2 episodes per manga volume. If the pace doesn't change we could even be further than volume 13 with the 26 episodes that have been announced.
