Re: Guts' Hawk Raiders Sword

Gather up as many good pictures of the sword in question and give them to the people who will actually do the metalwork, let them work out the dimensions. It's probably close to the estimates given. If they make it out of solid steel, it's probably going to weigh about 60lbs. If you're taking it to ...

Vagabond is kinda like Berserk in that it reads better in large chunks, where the occasionally glacial pace is more appropriate. When you're waiting 4-8 weeks between 16-page chunks, you want each dose to be really filling. I think this is one reason why serials like One Piece and Naruto do so well,...

Well, THAT'S a hell of a cliffhanger...

And nobody out there wants to translate this on a regular basis? 15 groups for Naruto and none for Alita...

There ain't no justice.

Last I checked, the latest volume in English was no. 8, and I think the latest tank in Japan was 10.

To date, there are no scan groups currently following the latest releases of Alita.

If by "movie" you mean the two-episode OVA series, yeah... it's pretty good, I think. Don't watch the dub if you can avoid it, but the animation is pretty nice. It was one of the very first anime I saw, and in fact it's what got me into Alita in the first place. Each episode is roughly equ...

It´s a side story of Koyomi and Master Den. It´s about 60 pages long and it came out before Phase 64. That's new and different... I've seen scans out there of three other "side stories" (one about Ido before he met Alita, one about Alita in her post-motorball/pre-Zapan days, and one about...

I should think the way to counter the Idea of Evil is to discover the Idea of Good. It makes sense that such an entity would exist. If the Idea of Evil is the personification of all man's pain, hatred, despair, anguish, cruelty and agony, then it would stand to reason that there might exist a person...

My Barnes & Nobels doesn't stock Berserk, but they ordered it for me and called me when it was in. They had two shelves dedicated to manga, yet choose not to stock Berserk and they never give me a straight answer. I think B&N has a general policy against stocking anything with a "matur...

Except that if they don't have it in their warehouse, then they can't guarantee when it will arrive (hence the "4-6 weeks" response).

Used to work for Waldenbooks (which is a Borders subcompany). Wasn't a bad job, but I'm glad I'm well shed of it.

Re: Borders and vol 13?

The only bookstore in my area that carries Berserk is Borders. However every time I've gone there to pick up vol 13, it's been "on order" Now I picked up vol 14 quite a while ago, yet vol 13 is still "on order" The staff seems clueless. I even spoke to a manager who said it coul...

I kinda figure it's inevitable, though... Guts will return to a Midland where Griffith is a beloved saviour, and if not King then Emperor.

Gut's artificial hand has always been articulate... they never explain how, but he can open and close it and presumably manipulate the individual fingers. When the Berserker armor takes over, does he get one lightning-bolt streak eye or two, though? If he gets two, then yeah... I'd say he's gotten b...

Yeah, it's a mystery to me as well... LO is something that you would think a scan group somewhere would totally make into a feature title and pick up on a regular basis, but for some reason no-one does. I'll take whatever I can get, whenever I can get it. I've bought all the stuff you can get in Eng...

Have you guys read DH's Blade of Immortal? They translate like Manji is standing in the streets of NY talking to gangbangers. Thats the worst translation i have read from big company, cause you are sure the mangaka didnt mean to make his characters sound like that. Nemmind, Wandering Mystic beat me...

I really want to know, now, what word is used in the Japanese subtitle/dub of Army of Darkness... It'd be even more awesome if it matched the word Miura used in the original version of his own scene (making it a purposeful reference that Dark Horse carried over).

Thought I'd mention that the Viz edition of this has come out... it is indeed quite jawesome. I like that they include all of Kishiro's liner notes in the back of the volume. Can't wait for no. 9... for one thing, it'll mean that Kishiro's new Alita series has now matched (and will like pass) the le...

I actually didn't recognize it as an Evil Dead reference until someone here mentioned it... but yeah, I guess it could have been taken that way. Basically, when Guts gets his cannon-hand he makes a remark... in the DH version he says: "Articificial arm, huh? That's groovy" In the scan I ha...

Knight of Skeleton is a more literal translation, which is why that's probably used. Nothing wrong with translating it literally though. As for some romanizations, keep in mind that Japanese people can't really make proper pronounciations for an English name, for example, in some cases with an 'r'....

Ultimately any changes really seem up to the tastes of the individual repsonsible for localising the dialogue. I don't recall any drastic differences... all things considered, the DH releases of Berserk have been an excellent example of manga publishing the way it should be done.
