Wow, I’m honestly impressed that the preview this time is in fricken color. Could this be the reason why he is taking as long as he has been?

Status report – 24rd, of June 2007: Raw is now in our hands and being worked on.
Status report – 26rd, of June 2007: Evil_Genius has been the target of a DoS (Denial of Service) attack. Our current ISP is unwilling to put any more effort in keeping us as clients, so we have moved on. I’ve secured EG refuge in Texas, hopefully they will have a stiffer backbone when dealing with these guys. Yes it has been stressful, and yes it does effect our release date schedule. We where slammed by two IPs, both coming in around 70~80mbit per second. I can only speculate as to why, perhaps Femto made a forum member cry?!

They do seem unusually small (Or Guts seems unusually big,) perhaps they’re further behind Guts than it looks. Either that, or in the time the story’s been following Griffith, Guts has grown about a foot despite being 21 or 22.

he is probably reaching the end of his growing i imagine, he only just got out of his teens + he is extraordinarily fit due to constant fighting (exercise); take a look back at when they first arrived at vitranis and guts is walking through the crowd, he towers over EVERYONE (you are probably casting your minds back to when he was in the hawks, at 18 and therefore still growing indefinitely, hence why he was about the same hight/a little taller than the others)
but enough of that; YES YES YES YES YES BACK TO GUTS YES
hopefully they will just arrive at the big boat and then we have a short trip to elfhelm

in fact, i think its just the way the picture was drawn, serpico, farnese, isidro and caska in the background and all the short people are around guts
look at the positioning of the feet, you can see that guts and schierke are in the foreground (unless you think that schierke has the same size feet as serpico…).
guts is around…6’7″+ i imagine, so he is still damn big, and i stand by my last post

All I want is some characters evolution. Casca has been a vegerable for years, always drawn with that stupid look and open mouth. I really hope the Elfhelm part will have her come out of her autism. I can’t wait to see her reaction to Guts, what she’ll have to say to him. I really hope we’re not in for a lengthy naval chapter.

The conflict between Guts and Griffith is only just one of the major conflicts I doubt that the series is going to end in the epic clash between Guts and Griffith, keep in mind that there is more at play such as the idea of evil we still don’t know what role the idea is going to play in the future. As for them heading towards Elfhelm, they are going to end up on other continents besides Elfhelm first, it would be nice to see what else has been occurring on other continents in the berserk universe and how the god hand has effected them. Like wise with the Guin saga that series also has the main character Guin going across multiple continents, so hopefully this is the end of the millennium falcon arc. My prediction is that Casca will be cured before volume 40 and once she gets cured that will be the turning point in the series in which I wouldn’t be surprised if miura is still trying to figure out a way to handle it properly, unless he decides to pull a Robert Jordan and have berserk having 5 plots at once. So is this chapter going to be all color or just the first few pages?

@Yoroichi: Berserk has never been once a week, it has traditionally been bi-weekly but due to vacation time or extended absence, Miura has been known to take a month or so off.
While we would all love for him to go back to being bi-weekly, it is just wishful thinking that he will ever keep a consistent deadline.
I mean, we have almost 20 years (1989) of experience telling us that a) he will keep doing Berserk forever and b) when he feels like it.

Err… I think that is just a arc-change picture showing the new team. With the pope making these declarations the Millenium Falcon now has been found, so : End of Arc.
I’m sure that they still are in the ship, and I imagine that some kind of stop in the I-don’t-remind-black-hair-man-with-ponytail country.

Sorry to disappoint everyone but all this chapter has to offer is page after page of Guts sipping on an alcoholic drink that has a tiny umbrella in it. Waves of nostalgic pleasure will hit you when you realize the chapter’s Naruto-ish filler appeal. Ishidro faces off against Shierke in a cookoff of epic proportions. Who will win? Perhaps Ishidro’s mastery of his blazing burger burner blade will outmatch Shierke’s ability to cook with the “flaming wheel”. Deliciousness ensues in the next exciting chapter of… BERSERK.

I’ld personaly do the layout like this
Guts- 10th lvl barbarian, 10th lvl frenzied berserker
Scorpio- 15th lvl swashbuckler
Fernzie- 3rd lvl fighter, 1st lvl mage
Schierke- 7th level mage/elementalist(giving up force and sound effects)
Ishidoro- lvl 3 rouge, lvl 2 fighter.
Caska- 10th-15th lvl fighter when she is sane.
Guts has a tendency to good despite himself, but otherwise AL is right. Scorpio is the only one right now that can touch Guts, and it is proven that they are around the same skill (although I still put Guts significantly higher). The witch is proven to be more then adapt, just not as strong as she could be (blame it on being a kid), and every one else still has a lot of growth to attain (being “aprentances” for the most part). Caska was only slightly weaker then Guts before her mental issues, so that is where I pull her stats from.
I’ll get back to you on the other side.

Scorpio the same skill level as guts? are you crazy nobody is the same skill level as guts, if fact there’s not even a theory of evolution any more just a list of animals guts allows to live. Scorpio can’t even beat guts when conditions are perfect as hes tried twice before. it’s true that things might be different with his feather sword but still guts would find a way to win.

I said that he is the only one right now that can touch Guts, not beat him. In any case, Mr. E, I don’t know how much D&D you play, but a 5 lvl diffrence is a very large gap, not to mention frenzied berserkers get insane amounts of damage. In these terms, Scorpio lasts mabey three rounds (18 seconds) and does at most 70 pts damage. Guts (fighting seriously) would be doing about an average of 25 per hit with four attacks in a round… so close to 75 a round (I’m including one miss per round). With the average of 150 hp at 15th lvl for a fighter. Guts has closer to 350. Scorpio can touch Guts, but that would be like someone with a nerf bat.

there are no levels or clearly good or bad characters in real life and Miura tries to stick to that – and i think that only because the story is set in a (dark) fantasy environment deosen’t have to mean that rpg rules will apply there.

If Guts were in D&D he’d be epic. not 10barb/10frenzied berserker, but a 15barbarian/15frenzied berserker. I like Serpico and all, but he can do about as well as anyone else vs Guts. Really… the only person who can stand up to him at all is Zodd, and his purpose seems to only be “let me help make Guts stronger! Yay!!”
But i agree completely… this is definitely some form of torture anticipating this release.

Alas, with the D&D thing, Frenzied is a prestige class (only 10 lvl), so I’ls say (and I do agree with it) epic lvl, 20/10. I know there is no AL base in real life, but that was just for translation perposes. Besides, as chaotic and mean Guts can be, whenever he can he trys to keep civilians and commoners out of his fights. That doesn’t mean that he isn’t above dirty tricks if he needs them though in otherwords very chaotic, with a tendancy to good, but very neutral over all.
Have fun with this my fellow geeks (and berserk fans, yes I know not all of you are roll-players)! Oh, and I totaly forgot all about the pyro stuff… I’m sure there’s a feat that does something like that…
Oh, and remember Zodd is an imortal, and we all know that they can only be killed by chopping off their heads (there can only be one!!). So Zood always kicks Guts around eventualy (Oh no, you peirced my heart, I’ll just wait for a couple seconds… there we go.).

Personally, what I would like to see in the long awaited sequel to this turbulent saga is a scene where Guts would be grappling a horde of enraged pirate ninjas (probably angry cause they failed to find the mysteriously missing raw…) on a wide, muddy field. And just above it Zodd and Casca would be sipping green tee on a veranda and discussing about how nowadays all religion has hone to heck and how the Pope is just a senile old quirk without any respectful authority. After a while, cause the discussion has led them nowhere, they decide to talk about ’08 election instead. Zodd would eventually order more cookies and they would both cheer “Go, Guts!” from time to time. Yeah, like the poor guy could even hear them being waist deep in pirate ninja blood. Oh, and Ishidoro would turn seriously EMO because he was feeling unappreciated and pityfull, so he would try to cut himself with his fire-dagger but the little fire-demons were also felling down on themselves so they refused to light up the dagger. Which, in turn, made Ishidoro even more depressed.
Scorpio and Fernzie would be chillin somewhere, smokin some wicked hash that Schierke had mixed up for them, and those flying buggers would join in too.
And then, on the whole of the last page there would be a scene where Griffith is lurking from the shadows, approaching our marry gang with his army, preparing to off them all.
…
And that would leave us yanking our hair out and making irrelevant D&D rants until the next chapter would come out a few months later.
But that’s just me

I stayed up late hoping for a raw, obviously it didn’t help anything.
As for the D&D thing awhile back instead of arguing about Guts lvl(which is obviously epic because he can do way more than 4 attacks in 6 seconds)we should be arguing about whether Ishidoro is a Halfling or not. It all fits, a +1 racial bonus to throwing things. -2 to strength so he’s not too powerful. But hey if he takes weapon finesse he can use that +2 dexterity to attack. Plus since he obviously has level’s in both rouge and fighter, he won’t take a multiclass penalty because rouge is the Halfling favored class. And he gets all those size modifiers, and the +2 against fear which was evident when he saved caska from all those “heathens”. So he’s a halfling he will never grow taller than he is now.

besides that Ranteil and others why is Schierke only a 7th lvl mage. you only get like lvl 3 spells at level 7. name one lvl 3 spell that can demolish an entire army, she has to be at least lvl 20 to get a lvl nine spell. it makes more sense that way because she can only drop one nuke spell before she runs out of steam plus her casting time is more in line with a ninth lvl spell. plus guts has to have some physical resistances which only really high level barbarians get and his AC and THAC0 would be out of this world because he almost never misses anybody and rarely gets hit facing normal opponents (ie non apostle) besides that everyone else would be low level because they just get by on their equipment. but i’d love to see gut’s stats

Wisdom 15 (maybe lower but he does go into philosophical rants about the pointlessness of life if you can’t live it the way you want)
Intelligence 15 (can think outside the box when fighting tough opponents )
Charisma 8 (wasn’t sure of this one because he doesn’t like people and is likely to kill them if they accidentally touch him but people still follow him without any prompting which suggest a higher Charisma)
anyway this whole thing is just a distraction from the pain of living without berserk.

Status report 2007.06.24 – Still no berserk 286, the raws are not out there. If you would like to prove me wrong with a link, then by all means. However, my pirate ninjas are well trained.
RSF, Sk.net, Mangahelpers, share/winny… all report the same: no 286.
So I reiterate, if you live in Japan or know someone who does, we would love to have a dedicated scanner for Berserk. We can work out a deal.

So, to the breakdown of Mr. E’s post…
For a Mage, spell lvls are gained at every odd lvl, 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17. You have to be thinking of a sorccerer (okay I can see the class change). In addition if you apply meta-magic feats while casting spontaniously that increasses the time to cast. So I can see those changes.
In D&D 3.5 THAC0 no longer exists. It’s now just a straight up modifier to the roll, and AC just goes up (no upper limit). So at lvl 20 Guts has a +20 to his attack, -5 for each additional hit as long as there is at least a +1. At epic levels your AB (attack bonus) doesn’t give you anymore attacks, and goes up by 1/2. This is part of the reason he can hit ANYTHING. You realy start to be able to do that around lvl 15.
Now for his stats: STR 25+ (easy), Dex 18, Con 25+, Wis 18, Int 12, Cha 8-9.
Str and Con, no one will argue with. He is a monster with these stats.
Dex is up there, but not abnormaly high. Close range, large targets, and an insane attack bonus is what lets him hit anything. The 18 would be maximum benifit with the least loss (due to armour).
Wis: This stat actually covers insights, like the fact that Rosine would go to protect Jill (somewhere in book 16). Also this stat is what he constantly uses to keep his “Beast” at bay.
Int: He’s smart, but not to the level of some of the others. personaly I think Caska is/was (when sane) amarter then him.
Cha: well this is an “uh-duh.” He has a penalty due to personality, but there are numurous comments that he isn’t horrible looking when they look close. So a 7 at the lowest.

D&D huh… yeah, done that… a long time ago…
Gatsu had 27/16/18/11/16/7 stats in order STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA and was a level 13 Barbarian/ 5 Ranger (crossbow)/ 7 Frenzied Berserker/ 4 Foeslayer (Demon), but still being 3.0 it was good as it was… that was before Jill (there he leveled and again in the tower). While as a both handed boy: 21/16/18/11/14/9 for stats as for class; 8 Fighter/ 5 Barbarian/ 2 Frenzied Berserker. As you know, when you don’t practice you can even lose experience and levels (at least it should be done this way), so he just changed Fighter levels for Ranger and Barbarian. He also got a unique feat, The Mark… it gives -2 Cha/+2 Wis and an uncanny sense for evil magical beings (outsiders, undead…) and procuring him pain and damage each minute, depending on the HD of the foe. Also surviving the eclipse gave him +2 Str.

I like the 4chan statblock for Gutts – it makes sense to me, certainly, although I would put the melee damage for the prosthetic arm at 1d8, rather than 1d6. Maybe 2d4.
Also: is it possible to order YA and have it shipped internationally? If so, EG might want to look into that.

Well, I could get you the scans somewhere between the 4th and the 12th of July…
Oh, and the sword is two-handed for Large creatures, but made usable for medium-sized creatures (so no -2 penalty for that). It requires STR 19+ and the right exotic feat. Also gives the wielder a -4 penalty for instability to both attacks and damage, unless you are a dwarf (only -2) or for every 8 points of STR above 19 (at 27 -> -2 or 0 for dwarves, at 35 -> 0 and remains 0 for dwarves). So if Gatsu rages or Frenzies he should be able to do it effortlessly.
The sword does 3d6 damage with a critical of 20/x4, It is magical +2 Defending, but later becomes… +4 Defending Demon bane. Due to the width of the junk, you can use it for cover if you ready it (+8 to AC) or make a successful Reflex save (DC 36) (+4 to AC). It has a Hardness of 16 (+2 for being made by The MASTER blacksmith) and 102 hit points.
The cannon does 4d8 bludgeoning damage to the first hit and 2d6 fire damage to all others on the line. He needs 1 full round to recharge it. While the Armor of the Berserk is just a minor artifact which should not be explainable just yet…
Gatsu is Chaotic Neutral, he just cares for Caska. Even evildoers, fall in love…
Now for CRs… the Snakehead would be 16 or 17 the same with the captain of the Black hounds, the Count 21, Adon 5 to 6, Baskorn 16, The Demontree 12, Lucine 20 (Gatsu was becoming too good), Azan 15 (G. hurt to death), Serpico 16, The Goat 23, The Angels 28 (All together), Zodd soon after Griffiths’ rebirth 29 to 30 (Both unable to fight at full), The Orc 26, A troll 6, Chieftain Troll 9, Slan 34 to 37 (in that form and not using fancy stuff), The Dragon 32 (Gatsu hadn’t armor), Zodd then 35, One eyed Bowman 29, Mr. Knight 33, Griffith around 40 (without too much fancy stuff), Emperor 41 (with fancy stuff)… Got the idea? At last, Gatsu is around lv. 34

Should play NWN online, the custom haks they use add’s alot of claases and it just like a online version of NWN, some server are mini MMRPG’s. with 60-100 people on. never ends never gets old, perfect way to pass the time.

I’m sorry for the extended D&D talk here, granted I’ve done more then my share. Just ignore THAC0, it’s to hard to explain correctly. AC stands for armour class, or how hard it is to hit you. x_D_y means you roll x dice with y sides. If you want to learn more I’m going to suggest that you go to Wizards.com. Look for the D&D tab, and look for the FAQ.
SkullKnight… epic lvl Knight (PHB 2) LN, feats include most/all ride feats, as well as Armour Specialization in Full Plate.
I’m only defending the Lawfull part of the alingment, he could also be evil.

OH but I’d say Guts is less neutral than people think, in his mind at least Griffith is pure evil so his ridiculously closed minded fighting of him could be considered good, then I guess Chaotic good since there’s no way to describe him without the word Chaotic, but this is just me since I’ve never played D&D, then again his narrow mindedness kills other people so maybe not good hmm… So what’s the deal with the raws? And to think, it would only be a few weeks in the Berserk world, not even. First off, thanks for the updates psi29a. I apreciate all the work you guys are doing for us.
@Pitt: Guts is Chaotic Neutral, the reasoning is simple. He’s hunting Griffith because he betrayed Guts (by trying to sacrifice him and Caska as well as the other Hawks) to gain power. Even then it is the fact that he was killing them and harmed Caska that drove him to do this. So in short, he is doing this for revenge, a personal reason. If he saw Griffith as a threat to people and then tried to kill him, it would be good. If he did it just because he was there and wanted to prove himself, then it would be more evil.
@Orthanos: Nope in simple D&D games, Griffith would mearly be the “end” baddy. Think Kafka or Sephoroth in the Final Fantasy series. Granted there might be more enimies then we know, but the God Hand is the pinicle that we see. The DM (dungeon master) would be the one making the rules and regulating everything: in this case our beloved mangaka, Kentaro Miura.
Oh, and again on a side note: ALL HAIL BERSERK! ALL HAIL EG! LONG LIVE EG!

I cannot figure Guts as a chaotic neutral .
if he was, he should have killed more people .
he kills ethically, only demons and men who want to stop him and who he cannot just dodge. And i’m not sure that he’s really chaotic out of battles. he has a great feeling of loyalty, he leaves Griffith to fit with his friendship’s concept. he want to kill him because he betrayed not only him but all of hawks.

He is Chaotic. When he killed the Bearslayer, Bazoso I think, his contract ended and he rushed away, refusing the commander’s offer. Then he did not want to join Grifs until swords were drawn. Most chaotic societies are barbaric ones, they are the best example and there the ruler, chieftain is the strongest. Gatsu has a sense of honor, little, but he never breaks a promise, at least tries not. He even fought dirty. He launched dirt on Grifs’ face. When he was in the Hawks, he often disregarded orders and did things his way, and Grifs knew that. Even for the assassination of count Julius, he did not give him precise orders, only the goal. Then Gatsu did not want to wait for help and went to fight Zodd alone. At the end he wanted to accomplish something by himself and quit the hawks. If that is not Chaotic… He may have some lawful traits like loyalty to friends and the thing about promises, but only Chaotic Outsiders are truly that way.
He is Neutral, because he often changes from Good to Evil. Usually, he does not help innocent people, not if there’s not another reason for it. At the beginning he was pure neutral. He did not feel the guilt for killing enemy soldiers and cared only for his companions. He shifted strongly toward Evil, when he began hunting apostles, but did not reach the status. Now he is more and more Good, but not enough. The main reason he wants them around is for Caska’s sake.

Well, Guts himself is good, but what about his alter ego? The Jackal that takes over him when he’s in the Berserker armor, or any other really stressful point. Would he be something like a familiar, or maybe even another character? Or does his existence mean that Guts is forever doomed to be neutral, or good because he fights of the evil within? Though, I may be mistaking Gauntlet with D&D here with the whole familiar thing. Now, what would be cool is if one of the special costumes in one of the Gauntlet games, like for the warrior or the knight, was Guts. And the sorceress as Sheirke, the Jester as Ishidro, the Wizard or Knight as Serpico, and the Valkerie as Farnesse. Hey, Guts’ group is just like an RPG video game. I know this has probably been said before, but Berserk would make a good RPG. Not a real time, but a turn table RPG, like FFX or Skies of Arcadia.

Actualy, the beast is his personal darkness. All his hate, rage, and insecurities. It takes the form of a wolf or jackel because that is what Guts sees himself as. In order for Guts to “win” ultimatly he must accept this part of him. The problem occurs when that rage takes over. Unfortunatly the Armour of the Berserk only amplifies these urges and feelings while in a fight, or anytime addrenalyne is peaked. So while he may be doing “good” we have to look at how he acts in all manners first. I mean even someone who is evil might “do good” in order to gain something they want, but they are still evil.
So how does he treat others? Easy: all exept Caska and Ricket he treats as “take it or leave it.” He admidts that he isn’t a leader, and that he dosen’t want to be one, yet they each follow for their own reasons.
Does he go out of the way to protect them? No.
Does he intentionaly try to put them in danger? No.
How about the general populace? His theroy is the strong take from the weak, but only what they need. The first part is chaotic/evil, but he only does this when he needs to, and only for what he needs which midigates the evil aspect a bit.
Does he defend the weaker people? Only if it is in his power to do so. Ten monsters? Sure. An army of monsters? Not so much. This attitude is definatly a good trait, and the latter is a reflection of the Chaotic part of his personality.
In short, he is very much a chaotic Neutral person. Once he accepts the Vissious part of him, I feel his alingment will change, but I see it going from Chaotic to Neutral. He’ll still fight, but in things like tournys and such. Maybe in battles where he is needed or there are strong people around.
And on one more side note: Gauntlet: The Night of Berserk or Gauntlet: The Sacrifice would be good titles for that game you mentioned.

I think Guts inner beast is supposed to be a wild dog, because thats what Caska was always calling him for being reckless. That also always pissed him off, most likely because it hit pretty close to home. Also, remember he still has a behilite. I doubt he’ll ever use it, but he’s got Caska as his precious sacrifice and that wild dog thing is probably what his apostle form would be. Im willing to wager that sometime down the road he’ll be tempted by that power. Especially if Caska’s condition is uncurable.

For gamers… there already is, or should I say ARE Berserk games, two of them. Gatsu’s Rage for Dreamcast, which takes from the anime more or less and is almost a sequel, while the millenium game for PS2 is the manga from 21 or 22 to 26 or 27. Beat that!!

Steve, just because Guts has a behelit does not mean it’s his. Plus, Guts is not the type to sacrifice his friends. His only reason for living now is to take revenge for his friends, Caska especially. Without her, he has no reason to live let alone become an apostle. Being an apostle would mean he would be serving Griffith and we all know he left the Hawks to follow his own dream so as to be considered an “equal” to Griffith.
I do like the idea of Guts making peace with his dark side. It makes alot of sense. He will need to use the full power of the armor in order to fight Griffith head on.

Yes, it is “his” behelit, that’s the entire point of the behelit, it is so powerful and mystical there is almost nothing (known so far) to prohibit it from falling into whoesover it needs. If Guts’ behelit isn’t meant for him, it will be using Guts to get to said person. Difference between saying “its not his “bechi”" and “he most likely isn’t the one to use it”

To a degree, the only reason he couldn’t use Casca isn’t because of Griffith’s sacrifice per say so much as she’s already “being sacrificed”, the end result usually being death. As Guts and Casca have survived such, God Hand didn’t go back to a rule book and look up “Can we sacrifice them again!?” So much as “What’s the point”. If they show up at the eclipse again, they’d already be branded and would be allowed to be devoured for Griffith once more. There’s no hardcore rule against double sacrifice so much as no reason.

Behelits are funny things, they find themselves in possession of who they want, or they just use that person to go along to whom they truly want. I don’t think either Guts or Caska could become apostles because they are already sacrifices, but one of their team members could be. And, about Guts not caring, I think he cares for Sheirke, and maybe Ishidro a little because he reminds himself of a younger Guts. Also, Farnesse because she’s good with Caska, and Serpico because he’s a good cook
. I think Caska can be cured, she’s just freaked out at the moment. The elf king will help her, I’m pretty sure about that. The big question is if she’s cured will she accept Guts again or not. Also, I wonder what little Rickert and Erica have been up to. Haven’t heard from them in a long while.

Caska loves Guts, of course she’ll forgive him. The child is a demonic fetus sort of looking after its parents. It exists in the spirit realm that only Guts(and Caska) can see. Since it’s power comes from the leader of the Godhand, Griffith, it has much more power than it seems to have. I’d like to see what role it plays in the future.

Umm, speaking about the behelit, I thought Guts had about five of them by now (one at a time). It seems like shortly after he finds one the Skull Knight shows up, does a favor, and then eats Guts’ behelit. I could be wrong, but I even think that he told Puck once to give it up because they’ld probably find another one anyways. Anyways, I’m sure that SK warned him about having them, and what they do. So I’m almost 100% sure that Guts won’t use one. However, who knows, after all if Caska dies I can see him using it to try for two goals at once, bring her back and gain the power to kill whoever killed her (provided he couldn’t do that already).

Why would you ever compare Ishidoro to Gattz? He’s *nothing* like Gattz as a child, Gattz started in battle as soon as he could use a weapon, and even before that he was on the battle field anyway, not to mention all the other stuff he had to deal with. Ishidoro on the other hand, is weak, dumb, a thief, and doesn’t even use a sword, despite wanting to become the greatest swordsman. He throws crap and maybe I remember him stabbing something with the fire dagger twice in the entire series. Ishidoro was probably intended to resemble Gattz though, but he doesn’t, and he sucks. So, comparing Gattz to that sorry excuse for a character would be an embarrassment.

I still have a feeling that fetus will come back. It’s got “Godhand” power plus the blood of both Caska and Guts(lots of attitude). Perhaps the fetus will attack Griffith from within while Guts attacks from the outside. I can imagine Guts landing the final blow then we see the fetus staring at him like usual only this time Guts smiles as it vanishes for the last time. No Griffith, no brand, no seeing/attracting spirits, no fetus. Then he walks into the distance with Caska.

It´s been also a very long wait for all the Biomega fans. The last release was 19 of April! The japanese releases are up to chapter 24 already. I hope the announced Biomega release will be of at least a couple of chapters.

@Phireo: It is more complicated than that. The upstream provider had to null-route the traffic from the particular offending IP because to let it through to the ISP would have killed it. We are talking about 70~80mpbs slamming into our ISP who has only dual-homed T1s (1.5mbps)x2 . This means that nothing is coming in and going out of the ISP (we are talking rather small, for businesses and not for hosting 100mbps sites).
The only option we had was to pull the plug our server and have the upstream provider (SPRINT) block it on their side
So we moved EG to a new setup that will hopefully help. I don’t want to damage the goodwill I have with the previous company since they are good friends of mine just trying to run a business. EG apparently just draws to much heat for them.
In the end, I’m paying out of pocket again, every month and the site is no longer running on the server that you guys donated money towards.
So we can all thank whoever it is for ruining it for everyone else.

The fetus or “Griffith” still has the blood of both Caska and Guts. It was their child after all. It would be interesting if that connection manifested itself either through hatred for Guts abandoning it or through love for Caska being its mother. It would just add another dimension to Griffith that way.

That child may have been the spirit of the fetus and at the time it was seeing its parents consent for its existence……..Guts seemed to be okay with him and Guts already had an idea of who the child was. Both Guts and Caska treated the child like their own and maybe that child was seeking acceptance of its existence.

well, consider the meta-physical side of this
when caska gave birth to the demon child, it had its own mind, and personality, right? (rhetorical question, the answer is “yes”)
but when griffith was reborn in the childs body, HIS personality was thrust inside (as it was already prominent, rather than a childs, which is always learning) , and unless you think that 2 souls can inhabit one body, then the childs soul was expelled from the body, and griffith took over.
personally, i think that the child on the beach was guts and caskas son without the evil body (if the baby accepted femto’s evil when caska was raped, then it makes sense for the part closest to griffith [the evil] to reamin within the body)
only thing i havn’t figured out in my theory is how the childs soul manifested itself on the beach to meet guts and caska

They are both branded so they exist on the edge of the real world and the spirit world. They are able to see the child’s spirit even though it has no physical body. I do believe that the child will return and play a big role. If he doesn’t, then there was no point to put the child in there in the first place. There would just be no meaning other than to say Griffith cast out the child’s soul which is kinda lame.

I think that child on the beach is truly Guts and Caska’s son, and the proof is just how he looks similiar to his parents…but is not so strange he has not evil body anymore, maybe he had a metamorphosys just like the new Griffith or is just the good-side of that child…
I think we’ll see it again just at the very end, because maybe he’s the dearest thing Guts could sacrifice in order to become a God Hand one…
But is that necessary? I mean the use of behelit and the metamorphosys? We always thought Guts needed to become super-human, but now is Griffith again “human” we can say…even though he’s something absolute…
Something important to understand the ending of berserk i think it’ll be the story of the Skeleton King.
He’s a precursor of guts and, in order to fight God Hand he, as King Gaisselick, sacrificed his own subjects but before that he used the berserk armour…without any results but to lose any sense…So he won’t let Guts use the behelit for sure…

What if the ordeal with the child on the beach is actually an attribute of the existence of multiple realities in this story, or the multiple layers of existence? To clarify, is it not true that Femto did not exist in the principal reality of the story until Griffith relinquished his life in the principal reality? As existence in one reality, or one plane of reality, means nonexistence in another reality, what if birth and death, the ebb and flow of life in the Berserk universe is a transcendence of realities? That being said, the child seen on the beach could very well be the child of Guts and Caska, yet only a temporary manifestation of the child that traded its physical existence with Femto. Thus, as Femto exists in the “physical realm”, the child now may exist mainly within the interstice, one of the astral worlds, or perhaps even live within the abyss. Something interesting to note is that the ethereal beings seem to need the presence of an existence within the “physical realm” in order to transcend their worldly boundaries. What about the Skull Knight? SK made his first substantial appearances after Guts and Caska had their romance. Could his existence perhaps be closely linked to the child’s? Could he be the child? Might Don King ever get a hair cut?
Frankly, I don’t care. That’s what Miura Sensei is providing for us, a grand story pieced together with his unique imagination. Instead of speculating wildly out of our sphincters, we should devote this space solely to praising Miura Kentarou for his masterful storytelling, praising Evil Genius and their scan-commandos, writing our sentiments as they are, then bowing out, reading the chapters, and getting on with our lives. Props to those involved with getting luscious Berserk goodness to us, and props to us acolytes that still buy the books when they come out in the states. Continue the wild speculation in the stupid theories section please; I’m tired of brick wall posts like this one taking up the space where important news should be, like the Denial of Service attack.

What about this: when the Band of the hawk’s member( i mean judeau, caska, guts, pipin toghether with princess charlotte and anna) went down the gaol to rescue griffith… the princess told the legend of the rebirth tower, and of the old midgar that’s under the same tower.
Judeau says that five angels saved the world and let the tower fall…But caska corrects him and says that the angel were four. The picture of miura shows actually five angels, so we can suppose that one of them left God Hand…
Gaisselick probably became a God Hand one to defeat this fifth angel, and we know that Skeleton King cares of Guts because he is the same he was once…So The Skeleton King had a rival, like guts has griffith and becoming a God hand one will ensure Griffith’s defeat…

Joel, I suggest you stay away unless you want to sit at your computer foaming at the mouth in wait of a new chapter… Berserk is seriously THE best epic tale ever and as much as I want to see the ending, I hope it keeps going till the day I die. when I have children, I will force them to read Berserk in its entirety in both english and japanese.

You don’t have to be so harsh on Ishidro. What I meant before was that Ishidro reminds Guts of himself, not that Ishidro is a young Guts. Anyways, Miura hasn’t let anything on about Ishidro’s past, he may be really messed up too. Truth be told, no one could be messed up as much as Guts, but everyone had to have a screwy childhood to be in Guts’ group. And hey, Ishidro being a theif is cool, he’s kinda like Judeau in that respect. I do think that Ishidro is more like Judeau than Guts, but he looks more like Guts in appearance. To Guts, his own life wasn’t one of over excessive strength and hardship, but of clever survival of a young boy. That’s what he sees in Ishidro, even if in a dorkier package.
Anywho, who do you think is going to let it slip that Serpico is Farnesse’s brother? Guts or Serpico? I bet you Guts’ll be bored on the ship and accidentally tell Roderick.
Even though this isn’t the deep Behelit multiple reality stuff you guys are talking about, what I’m mentioning is also proof of Miura’s genius. If you take away all of the magic and the supernatural stuff and the demons and the fighting it is still a grand character driving story. The fact that it has the rest is what has made it a living legend.
P.S. EG you have no idea how your work is contributing to the development of western literature and fanfare. Berserk is even discussed in my University English classes. Of course the profs don’t know what it is, but that’s fine. Because of you we can keep the west up to date with Berserk, instead of waiting for years in murky waters with most Japanese mangas or animes. Of course, there aren’t many other than Berserk that deserve constant English translations.

I started anime and reading scanlations thanks to berserk. cus of Berserk, i now have over 167 anime series and have read 27 full manga series and more…..O yeah my kids will be fed berserk for bedtime stories.
I owe my addictions and hobbies to berserk. I have been corrupted.

well I got an idea even if it wont be cool for some. Chapter 286 could be temporarily placed on some of those websites that let you upload files so people can dowload them until the problem is fixed.
anyway can someone that has the raw or a translator from the EG team tell us when to expect the cahpter 287? Sometime near August or September?
You know, for a manga that takes roughly a month for each new chapter to come out, it only has around 20 pages. I think they should increse it a little just for making the fans wait so much for it, considering how sometimes 3 or 4 or more of the pages are just a characters face in a surprised expresion or screaming NO!!!!
any of you agree.(Im also very secretly speaking about the lame way Bleach is presented, 17 pages and 10 pages can be only faces in a surprised way!)

Just a quick bit of trivia; who else besides me noticed that Griffith is the middle finger of the God-Hand? I wonder if Miura was too busy working on the manga to notice the humor in that, or if he did that just to put in a bit of subtle humor.

For some reason, Guts levels up by means of otherwise horribly disfiguring or fatal injuries.
Just how old are Guts and Caska supposed to be, they’re in their mid to late twenties, right? With all of the hell that they are going through, I wouldn’t be surprised if they spontaneously age 60 years.
